When a regular dana 60 won't do.... We had a junk dana 70 rear axle laying around and decided to turn it into a front axle. Here is how we did it! #4x4 #rockcrawler #offroad

Hot Hot Hot!! 😂 Very interesting conversion. Following! I just watched the Dana 44 cut and turn video again yesterday as I am about to modify my 77 Scout II front axle. 4" RC suspension with Zero castor and 33 X 13.50 Nitto Mud Graps... Goes every direction but straight. 😂

Awesome build sir and great news on your wife 🙏 Are you planning on using 35 spline Chevy kodiak axle shafts? If so what's the length on your axle king pin to king pin?
@OldIronOffroad Жыл бұрын
I will use inner shafts from branik motor sports in the 35 spline flavor. 1.5 diameter. Not sure on kingpin width. Will have to measure. Thanks for watching!!!

Happen to have a part number for that inner seal ? Also what axles are going to run ? Ford ?

Awesome awesome job. I have two questions, when you’re taking a Dana 70 rear and putting it in the front do you need any particular gears I guess what I’m asking is that rear end can spin in any direction it doesn’t know if it’s in the front or the back I hope that makes sense. Second question if you had clean factory knuckles let’s say a Ford F350 and everything else and didn’t want spend the money on the custom parts you could weld those on it be perfectly fine correct?

Thanks. Just standard rotation gears. A front axle is just a rear axle driving on the coast side of the gear. Things get weird when you " flip " a diff into a high pinion. That is where reverse rotation gears come in. Sure. You could use factory knuckles.

How do I know how long to make each axle tube?
@OldIronOffroad6 ай бұрын
That is going to depend on how wide you want the axle to be and what kind of pinion offset you need. There is no real exact number. It is all based on your application.

should have put the tube in the freezer

As a heavy equip mechanic rebuilding equipment for decades. Yes freeze parts you want on the inside, and heat parts you want on the outside. Usually 125c for bearings and most parts. It also helps to use some sort of lubricant, even engine oil, hyd oil to help slide it together. You can buy wax pencils that melt at this temp as well. Also don't be afraid to grab a block of wood or blunt chisel and a hammer to ensure parts are in bottomed

Do I need to send you some gloves?
@OldIronOffroad Жыл бұрын
These were really good welding gloves. Once the leather gets hot though it is over.

Thx. I’m a machinist by trade and want to duplicate your build.

So the inner axle seal is a standard GM dana 60 inner axle seal. Shafts are custom length from Branik Motorsports. They are just a shade longer that a stock GM 60. I will have more on the shaft on an upcoming video.
