Option 1 is better and you really dont save time with crypto IRA because the rollover time is usually 2 to 4 weeks. So, you can do option 1 in 2 to 3 weeks

A self directed IRA sounds great for the low cap cryptos or for being able to trade cryptos 24/7 (if the directed IRA allows it). Otherwise, if you are trading the big boys like BTC and ETH, you can buy the equivalent in your normal ROTH via GBTC and ETHE for example. You would save time and fees this way, but you are limited to trading during stock trading hours.

Yeah it's good for retirement, but I'll never sell my crypto. I'll just use it as collateral for a loan on blockfi at a low percentage instead of getting taxed 40% for selling it and losing almost half. And then when the blockfi loan is paid off I get the entire amount of my crypto back, no taxes.

There is a big risk involved getting a loan against your crypto as a collateral. When the price drops either you have to put more crypto as a collateral or face liquidation and lose all of your crypto in a short period of time. At a 70% LTV your loan enters a margin call.

It looks like you missed a critical step. For the Roth IRA scenario, a single owner LLC has 100% ownership, which breaks the prohibited transaction under IRC 4975. Please create a follow up video so others viewers are not misinformed.

Anyone who does not do this is crazy. Your crypto holdings may 100x over 5 or 10 years. And you will pay NO tax on that, vs paying $500k in tax. Because the gains in crypto are so much more (potentially) than in the stock market that getting in on the ROTH is 💥, a no brainer.

Just wow. This is life changing stuff here. Say one has several hundred thousand+ already in crypto. One would need to cash out and pay cap gains I assume but the remainder could be used for the backdoor Roth I assume? Can one not do a self-directed Roth Crypto IRA on your site (specifically a backdoor) it looks like?

If you are capable of saving money you do not need Acorns. Just put money into a ROTH as long as you fall in the income parramiters.

@@sungkim1728 yes. Only self-directed IRA's or any other self-directed retirement account can invest in this alternative investments besides the regular brokerages products. It has to be set up as self-directed.

I think what fidelity is doing , they’re linking your Coinbase account to their platform where you can check balances, but that’s about it. You can’t invest in crypto with Fidelity yet. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it happening very soon.

Fidelity is telling me I can’t take the existing money from my traditional IRA to pay the taxes on my ROTH, they said I have to have the money for taxes on hand to pay at the end of the year. Are they telling the truth?

I think so. They are only allowed to deduct the penalty for an early distribution. IRS sets the rules for tax taken out early. But I’d call again and confirm 👍🏻

Who acts as wallet custodian in scenario B? I thought the Crypto IRA company was required by law to control custody? Explain who controls the Gemini wallet if Crypto IRA funds are used to open it? Will all Crypto IRA companies, like iTrust, allow the use a Gemini wallet??

If i already have a crypto wallet (Coinbase, BlockFi) can i still do this? Or does it have to be done before you have a wallet?

You will have to set up a new wallet. When dealing with self-directed investments, you have to remember, the wallet can't be under your name, or owned by you, it is owned by your retirement account. So you can keep your personal wallet, but if you want your retirement account to own crypto, you will need your retirement account to open a wallet! Directed IRA has a $300 annual fee. That seems rather high to me.

Another company with the same product has the same annual fee. Seems like it might be this rate until more platforms offer it and it gets more competitive.

Most also charge about a 1% trading fee like Choice by Kingdom Trust…but you still save more by not paying capital gains tax

No you don’t have to be the registered agent, whatever state you apply your business license with should have one…I have one assigned to me through tone of the online licensing sites that do everything for you, including get you an EIN #…hope this helps!

I have a feeling I may be stuck, but I need to know if there's a way to take my current crypto in my Coinbase wallet and move it into a ROTH IRA and avoid the taxes. I just don't know what to do. I hate the thought of 30% +/- going to Uncle Sam. Thanks for any insights.

I believe there is a way to transfer directly from your Coinbase wallet to an iTtrust Capital Roth IRA.

Of course not. Funds must be in an IRA with taxes already paid before they are tax-free after growth. First you must open IRA and deposit after-tax funds.

I dont know of any investing app that will let you buy crypto under a Roth IRA. Robinhood does not offer Roth IRA and Webull offers a ROTH IRA but wont let you buy crypto. Any ideas?
