How To Can Pineapple with No Special Equipment or Mason Jars is in today's video. Watch and learn how you can also make your own shelf-stable pineapple while it is in season. Easy to follow instructions and far nicer than store-bought canned pineapple.
The equipment I used today can be found below.

I have used those jars in pressure canner for pinto beans, had no problems with them, as long as the seal is clean and there are no breaks in the seal, opened them 2 years later and still were sealed and the beans were delicious. They did just as well as regular canning jar

When we stated preserving peaches 40 years ago using the old Edmonds cookbook, we used a pound of sugar to a pound of fruit. Fast forward to now, we use no sugar, just water and fruit. Makes Its own syrup. Best peaches imaginable.makes you wonder why we ever needed sugar to be added in the first place.
@FarmersWifeHomestead

Yes, very true. You don't actually need the sugar at all.

Just done my first ever pineapple! Actually, it's still in the waterbath, but still, so easy! We would only use a little pineapple at a time, so did 300ml jars, and got 6 from 1 pineapple. Still kicking myself for not doing it when they were cheaper, but I'll know for next year. Paid $5.49 for the pineapple, so still pleased and will do more next weekend if there are more pineapples to be had :) thank you!

Hopefully not a dumb question but when you put them in dishwasher are they already clean and you don't have dishwashing tablets or are they for cleaning (eg it might have a bit of peanut paste left in it?)

Stacey. We use those jars 95% of the time. Any nice jars with 63 or 83 mm we will use. Even in pressure canning. In all the years we have not had 1 broken jar. Some have perhaps not sealed but we do buy new lids and that makes the difference. Love your channel ❤️

Any tips on where to buy new lids in NZ? I've started using cellophane jam covers under lids that look a bit spotted or rusty, or when bottling anything vinegary that might rust my lids up. I'd rather have good clean lids!

We are in Victoria Australia and we get ours from a place called plasdene. I just googled NZ and there is a place called comag agencies. It looks like they might sell. Buy the ones that pop. Not sure what they are called properly. 63 is for most jars like dolmio and 83 is like those squat salsa jars and some others. They are cheap like 10-15c. Could be less.

I bought a pineapple to bottle but it was not as ripe as it should be. I cooked it in a light syrup and made it into sweet and sour sauce, just using what I had and tasting as I went. Now I have enough for 3 or 4 meals. You have encouraged me to think outside the square and problem solve. The sauce will be a handy addition to my freezer stash! Thanks heaps.

Slice off the top and replant it. It'll grow another pineapple just smaller. Then just "rinse and repeat". Each time you'll get a smaller pineapple but it'll save you money. And you'll have fresh pineapple.

Another great and informative video than ANYONE can do with -0- "special" tools or equipment. I remember in my foster home we canned pears, plums, and peaches this way. I had never canned before and s an 18 year old, this was so satisfying and rewarding to me. And then to open one of these jars in the winter when the fruit was no longer in season, it seemed like a special treat! Love & BIG HUGS to you and Husband!

I always thought that you had to cover the jars with water when waterbath canning, but I did get a lot of siphoning of the contents out of the lids before they sealed, and sometimes they didn't seal either. Now I don't cover the lids with the water and no more siphoning or unsealed jars, haven't had any problems with the preservation - everything keeps just as well as if they'd been done the other way. Just in case any viewers have been having that siphoning problem. Thanks Stacey, perfect timing again - got 3 pineapples at the vege mart today $2 each!
@FarmersWifeHomestead
@FarmersWifeHomestead 4 ай бұрын
A word of caution, the jars must have water over the lids as I showed in the video. It is a science and it helps to create the correct heat. Siphoning is usually caused by taking the jars out of the water too fast or heating up the jars too fast. That is a great price for pineapples, I hope you enjoy canning them :-)

This is pretty cool! I’ve never done water bath canning (never done ANY canning - we just call it preserving, heh!) but my old man loves pineapple and the tinned stuff is definitely expensive at times compared to buying fresh, even in the UK. I’m getting more and more interested in the idea of preserving fresh food. Even though I’ll never be able to afford a pressure canner and jars, I’m keen on reusing the jars that I keep and currently use for either making jams / chutneys or freezing. I have jars, I have a big stock pot…I’d love to know what else I could preserve using the same method, if anything - thanks so much for sharing!

I use them all the time too . I use them for everything but meats and meat broths. I've used mine for over 10 years. And the old peanut butter jars too. Even the old juice jars. Half gallon jars and old mayo jars you just have too put on the seal then the metal jar lid.

They are great to use and so much cheaper than trying to buy hundreds of jars.

Do you happen to have the ratio of water, sugar and vinegar for the syrup, that the pineapple cooks in? TY. I'll go back and listen to see if I can catch the measurements. Edit: All good. 5 cups of water to a half cup of sugar.

People get a bit crazy about safety when preserving. Folks have been doing it for centuries without all the high-tech stuff we have now. I actually re-use food jars to preserve excess produce and have been doing that for decades and I'm still here. This is not a recommendation of course and you need to take precautions. I've never tried preserving pineapple though. I'm more into Passata and other tomato-based preserves as that's what I tend to end up with :)

I agree, you just have to know how to be safe. I really hope you give the pineapple a go. I have not bought pineapple again since making my own.

Great video, im in Canada 🇨🇦 ive just been looking up on Amazon to buy Lug lid replacement. Jars are getting so expensive now. Ive been trying to purchase jarred products in stores that come in mason type jars. But now any jar with Lug lids will do! Game changer! Thanks, Stacey 😊

Great recipe and method. Lots of useful tips too. No big deal if you use the supermarket now and then. Foodstuffs who owns Pak n Save and New World often have the as much buying power as the cash and carry superstores or fruit and vege markets and so can be cheaper which is really the point. Look forward to your next video.

They are so pretty, I got them for a think $3 a pop. They had one-piece lids but I had lids and rings that fit them perfectly.

Good tip about the jars in the dishwasher, we normally boil them up in a pan but it can be dangerous xx. Love all your content from Lyn in Aus.

Hi Stacey I hope no one give you any flack for this if it works for you and stays sealed go for it. I have never water bathed when I can i know many do. I have my jars boiling in a water bath before i fill them with boiling ingredients. I boil the snap lids as well, and pack them the same way as you do. My husband and I and some times a 3rd person get an assembly line going. Then the jars sit on the counter until they seal. I have never had anything ever go bad. I understand the water bath method but have never used it.

@@FarmersWifeHomestead I'm in Australia and I get mine, along with jars from a company called Pack My Product. They make commercial grade jars. I got in touch and double checked for safety. I get lids when I need them too. Way, way cheaper than the American jars and lids! I got tired of getting ripped off! 💜
