In this video I explain how to care for compression socks as well as how to wash compression socks in the washing machine versus hand-washing. Taking proper care of your compression socks can preserve their elasticity and maintain their compression ability. Learning how to wash compression socks whether in washing machine or by hand washing will extend their life and save you money in the long run. I discuss where to find your compression sock care instructions, how frequently to wash your compression socks, how to adjust the washing machine settings for your compression socks, what kind of laundry detergent to use for compression socks, as well as a visual demonstration of hand-washing compression socks.
As a registered nurse and nurse practitioner, I have been wearing compression socks for many years working long 12 hour shifts to help with aching and swelling. I also wear compression socks while running and training for marathons to decrease muscle aches and help speed up recovery. Any time I am traveling for an extended period by car or plane, I always wear compression socks to help with blood circulation and to decrease any likelihood of developing blood clots. Compression socks also provided great relief postpartum when I was experience a lot of swelling and aching in my legs. I am a dual certified family and pediatric nurse practitioner. I worked many years as a registered nurse in the emergency room, then continued working in the emergency room after becoming a nurse practitioner.
