I have to say, your videos have done wonders for helping me deal with my fear of snakes. I used to have small panic attacks whenever I'd see any kind of snake, venomous or not. But just recently, I was out with my Sunday School class, and one of them found a snake. After taking a look, we identified it as a scarlet king snake. After all my kids ooh'd and ahh'd at it, another teacher then herded it into a bucket and released it in a pasture across from our church. The surprising thing is that I didn't feel any panic. It was actually a really cute little thing, and that's something I never thought I'd think about a snake.

They're really nice (certain types obv) if you ever go to Tokyo there's an Owl Cafe where you can handle a snow Honduran milk snake or king snake, and it's not slimey at all, kind of smooth yet scaly. They're firm and soft at the same time and really lovely! I was a little nervous at first and I was asking questions to the lady (is it poisonous, what species, does it bite, what does it eat, etc) to clam myself down and relax a bit and it showed signs of being uncomfortable, but soon it calmed down and so did I. It wrapped itself around my arm and kind of snuggled. The lady then told me different ways to handle it, and they were really satisfying!

I have an anerythristic honduran milksnake named Milkshake :] and the "feeding mode" is so true! He's always such a gentle and sweet boy but the second he's in his feeding tub, he gets SO excited and tries eating the mice sideways instead of head or butt first :P then gets confused why he can't swallow hahaha

I also know a way to make the difference between a milk/king snake (harmless) and a coral snake (venomous)! Look at their color pattern. Then remember the rhyme: Red touches black; you're okay Jack (-> it's a milk snake) Red touches yellow; you're a dead fellow (-> it's a coral snake)
@burningscales2 жыл бұрын
Also remember that this rhyme only works in certain areas, as patterns differ amongst coral snake species.

I just got a kingsnake today from petco. It honestly was a little more pocket friendly than a breeder for me currently but will definitely get one in the future. It’s got scales on its belly that have a rainbow shimmer if the light hits them just right. He is beautiful and loves to be held already
@nightinggale64704 жыл бұрын
For future reference please don’t buy from petco. They often have unhealthy animals and always get their animals from mills, which are not good things to support.
@turbo959124 жыл бұрын
Nighting Gale I know that they are not good to support, I just couldn’t purchase from a breeder right now because I didn’t have the money to buy from a breeder, plus, i didn’t have an enclosure set up and all that so it seemed easier for me to get everything needed for the snake and to get one there. When this one eventually dies, I will definitely purchase from a breeder because likely I will have enough for a new snake (possibly enough for a cool morph) plus I won’t need to get any other supplies for it besides food and aspen fiber.

I love y’all’s videos. My wife got me in to wanting to own a few snakes and possibly breeding them. When you come to Louisiana remember : red and black friendly jack. Red and yellow kill a fellow. Meaning our milk snakes are red yellow and black like our scarlet and coral snakes . But both Texas and eastern coral snakes are : red yellow black yellow red yellow black ( red touches yellow) Milk snake is black red black yellow black red black yellow black …. And scarlet snake copies this pattern of the milk snake but with out the yellow

Now he eats well, but he doesn't strangle them or anything... just sort of grabs them... then swallows them. Adult mice of course now. He's 13 years old. :P Also, I can literally put my hand in and poke his nose right after feeding him. He won't bite. He's never bitten anyone. He's the best snake. :)

@SnakeDiscovery7 жыл бұрын
Super Shepherd It depends on the individual snake. If they get "addicted" to it and never leave (which can cause scale problems), then I only provide it 24/7 while they're in shed/blue phase until the shed is complete. However, as long as they're not in it constantly then I leave it in at all times to use at their pleasure.

So, since they like to dig would sand be a good idea for a base? Or is the base she has easier to clean? She also did not really touch on the hot spot. What is a good temperature for Milk Snakes? Also, do you have to keep humidity up in their take with something like that or could I use a spray bottle. I would appreciate any answers. I am inexperienced and would like to buy a snake having a good idea of what to do before I buy one.
@finneganraines75226 жыл бұрын
nope sand can be irritating or harmful to a lot of snakes. something soft and not too fine like aspen or coconut bedding is best. for humidity, milk snakes don't need much, either a humidity box in their tank or an occasional nice room temperature bath can make a big difference in easy shedding! it also depends on the snake! mine spends most of his time on the cool end of the tank, so I give him baths instead of making a humidity box that he won't use much. I have tried a spray bottle but I found that it wasn't as efficient bc it took so long and didn't seem to make sheds easier. it's a bit of trial and error, but you can tell by the completeness of their shed if something needs changing. do lots of research before getting a snake! they are very hardy and easy pets when they have their basic needs, but the basics are essential! good luck :] (I'm not an expert at all, but I have a few years experience with having a milk snake)

Do I need a heat lamp? I’ve been researching and almost all said that I need one for a basking spot and to use the heat mat during the night.
@6strings7354 жыл бұрын
No heat lamps for kingsnakes or milk snakes. Use either ceramic heat emitters or heat mats/heat tape. Lamps dry out the cage too much and do not provide the correct heating snakes use. In the wild, the sun heats the ground, and the snake is in the ground (speaking of milk snakes) using the heat in it - in a burrow, under bark, etc.
@ileanaavelar51872 жыл бұрын
How do you heat the plastic enclosure container? Again what size is ok for a king snake and do you make holes 🕳 with a drill as I have seen some other snake care videos that have holes drilled on the side?! Is that necessary and thanks again.

Wait, so with a milk snake could we leave the humidity box in forever? Or should we take it out to prevent scale rot? I think I’m just going to see what happens but I might just leave it in. If that doesn’t work, make it just for sheds. (I’m thinking about getting one and I know it depends on the snake and I’ll watch him/her closely. If you do respond or anyone please any help is welcome.) Thank you! -Spilled

Old vid but really helpful so I wanna say thank you! I just got a beautiful baby albino Nelson milksnake 3 days ago! The pet store I got her from said they think she is a girl so I named her Aspen! (/Mochi as a cute nickname bc I couldn’t decide betweeen names 😅) She’s like super tiny at this point in time but the humidity box thing is genius bc I got her a 20 gal terrarium and it likes to sit more at 20-30% humidity no matter how often I mist it. Also if u see this a question I have is, do they lose their cute bright neon yellow stripes as they get older? Doesn’t make a difference to me but I just noticed the albino you were holding had really faded yellow bands so I’m was just curious if my snake will look similar at all when it matures!
