@dominicandawg3455
@dominicandawg3455 2 жыл бұрын
@@slowdownx3919 theoretically it should if you make a cabinet that doesn't let the heat escape and use a high quality heat gun and direct the air away as to not mess up the powder layer on the parts. But heat from an air gun is delivered differently than heat from an oven as one uses coils that heat up and a blower to push that heated air out while an oven uses induction coils in an enclosed insulated area to heat up said area and bake the parts. But theoretically yes it should be if you can get the heat gun to hold between 350 and 450 degrees to allow the powder coat to cure on the parts but that would have to be fully tested

For sandblasting the frame and wheels I use a cheap 2 man tent ⛺ and a good respirator. These are generally well sealed. You can tip it up in such a way to reclaim most of your media from the corner of the floor. Also for heating I use an electric hot plate, works just fine

Make the oven but don't put a door on it. Instead leave the floor unattached and slip the "oven" over your parts and the floor. This allows you to stage all your painted parts in the oven when you have access from 5 sides, reducing the risk of scrubbing any paint as you are putting them in the oven.
@eschrader
@eschrader 2 жыл бұрын
Do you put insulated foam under it?
@TheRalliowiec
@TheRalliowiec 2 жыл бұрын
@@eschrader Yes, you make a box out of 6 pieces of foam. The 4 sides and the roof are all connected together. You then take those 5 pieces and slip it over the floor and the parts.

Then you have to build a sturdy hanging rack. I prefer a opening lid via duct tape hinges, and an extra inside wall that is movable to reduce the size of the box for multiple small items. A 2' x 2' x 4' box can quickly turn into a 2' x 2' x 2' box or smaller.

Cool video man and thanks for showing a better option for the oven! One place I worked at many years ago did a lot of powder coating for parts we made for the military, mainly having to do with the illumination of FOB's. The oven there was about big enough to put a vehicle in and about 10 foot in height. Lol. It was awesome but so was the electric bill that went with it I'm sure! I don't know what the isolated cost was to run it at least 5 days a week 24 hrs a day.(3 shifts), because we had a lot of welding machines and fabrication equipment too. I've been wanting to do a lot of parts on my bike as well but couldn't afford to pay someone. This is such a great alternative! Cheers

Olfa makes a long blade utility knife that's great for cutting foam board. Best of all, it saves you from creating fine particles of polyurethane dust with your skill saw that you'll end up inhaling for the next year, since the stuff never decomposes and is light enough to become airborne and float around the whole house.

I would guess that by gradually increasing to higher and higher grits while wet sanding, eventually all the scratches would disappear and it would start to smooth out and become shiny. Which is not what you want really but it may be better to polish it to a shine and then sandblast it with 50 or 60 grit so you have a fresh surface.

For longevity it might be better to set up your heat gun on the outside with a metal tube poked through the wall or even just the front end of the gun itself pushed through. That way you are not continually heating up your entire gun over and over as I am sure it eventually wouldn’t like it.
