Thanks for showing this. Did you have to unbolt the drive shaft to remove the transmission? I heard you can leave it in the transmission and just undo the u-joint....

ran doshus If I remember correctly I think the way we did it was to unbolt the U-joint (4 bolts I think) down by the differential and then we just pulled the drive shaft down on the rear end and then slipped the drive shaft right out the of the transmission tail shaft (it was just a slip joint fit), and then set the whole assembly out of the way. It has been awhile, but I think that is how we did it. Also, I remember using a marker to mark how the drive shaft bolted up, just to make sure it bolts back up the exact same way. Well thanks for the comment and have a good day.

What size engine was this? I have a 4.0 with eh 5 spd and need to put a new slave and such in it.. Trying to find a good video how to get to all the trans bottles to remove it. Also how to get the shifter off the top.

Rico Lorenzo I believe this was the 4.0L engine with the X 8th digit V code. Well I remember the top two bolts for the transmission bell housing were a real pain in the butt to get to. I got them by laying across the top of the engine and cramming my arm in between the firewall and engine block. It took longer to get those two top bolts then it did to get out all the other bell housing bolts combined. I think If I had to do it again I would use a 3ft long extension with a swivel and socket on the end and a ratchet and I would reach up from the bottom to get the two top bolts from underneath and reaching over the top of the transmission ( I hope that makes sense what I am talking about) However at the time we didnt have those long tools to reach them and I had to lay across the engine from above and cram my hand down in there a real pain in the butt. I remember it taking us like an hour just to get the top bolts off the transmission bell housing. As far as the shifter it wasnt to bad to get off, just a few bolts and it pulled out pretty easy, there should be exploded views of the transmission on google to see how it goes I think. I am not 100% sure but I do believe that was an M5R1 manual transmission, but there may have been other model transmissions for that year. Not sure. Well I hope that helps you out good luck on your project. Thanks for the comment and have a good day.

Hi Good Day. Cris Here Did you remove the whole engine to access the pressure plate? Thanks Cris
@figibloom8 жыл бұрын
Nope, did not do anything to the engine, we removed the transmission to get to the pressure plate. Which required removing the u joint and drive shaft, removing trans mount, and all of the bolts in the bell housing, and removing a few other things. Well I hope this info helps you out. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Have a good day.

best to replace or have a machine shop resurface the flywheel, too much work to shortcut that step, i had a dodge caravan van the previous owner failed to do that less than 20k clutch was shot again the surfaces never fully mated
@figibloom9 жыл бұрын
+remocres I agree having the flywheel resurfaced or replaced is the best way to go. However in this case it was not my personal vehicle or my call. I am a big believer in resurfacing or replacing. Well thanks for the comment and have a good day.
