How to change a starter on a V6 accord (2013-2016)
As well as tending to the TSB 16-002 procedure involving rotating the torque converter by one bolt hole to set the new starter and not ruin it after installing.

Seems to me the TSB was issued for a known defect that Honda refuses to pay for to correct. They should do the right thing and issue a recall and reimburse everyone who's had to replace a starter prematurely.

Does the vehicle need to be in neutral when you go to turn the torque converter? Or just jack up the passenger side and pull off that wheel and that’s all you need to do to get started with the TSB procedure you showed? Thank you

No sir. I was turning the motor over from the crank pulley. I should have mentioned and put a visual in there but with my left I was cranking the motor over off screen.

I appreciate this video as not too many people have videos on the 2013-2017 V6 Honda Accord. But you didn’t remove the battery tray, and I’m not sure why you messed around with the torque converter. On the first start the starter will grind for .5sec. But every other start will be perfect.

It was just in the technical service bulletin as a recommendation, so far a year later there hasn’t been a grind since. I may have just got lucky.

Its going to grind again .. you should ve bought your starter from honda... the latest version from the dealer has the most updated version tolerances on the starter..

A technical service bulletin is a recommended procedure of repair that’s issued by the manufacturer themselves if there is an issue that becomes a common issue with a specific part or problem. What I’m assuming makes it different than a recall is that it is instructive to technicians and shops who are to possibly come across this issue and repair, and also isn’t a danger to the driver or passengers.
