Very informative thank you but I would have greased the new cable and also cut most of the excess off as it could break free and puncture your rear tyre-unlikely perhaps but possible

Never ever grease the cable, it does more harm than good.

@@BuilditRideit You are talking absolute bollocks mate-Mechanics ALWAYS TELL YOU TO GREASE CABLES. Also why use pliers to do nuts up when spanners are the correct tool. YOU are the tool mate!!!!

The cable might have gone bad, change it, should work fine again.

Also, on a non sarcastic not, it's always a good thing to inspect the condition of conduit, while changing the cables, and removing the top cover helps you with that😊
