I have a 96 sierra which is just the gmc version of the silverado and every issue ive had has been 2-4 bolts taken off and either clean or replace the part which most were extremely cheap and just re bolt stuff down and mine runs like a dream now, that truck will run forever if you take care of it.

Thank you for you video. I have done oil changes before but this is the first time that I have owned a 1997 Chevy SUBURBAN and it is much more different than the 1979 Chevy truck I owned in the past. You made it simple to understand and follow

Warming it up is also to get debris that might be settled, back into suspension, so it can drain out with the oil better.

Good simple lesson. Some scenes were too dark to see detail but I can see it on the engine. Nice work

Thank you for posting this. I used to change my own oil frequently, but over the last 5 years, I hired various others to do the work. Recently, I had a string of bad experiences, so I decided to go back to doing it myself. I couldn't remember if the oil plug was the one I thought it was, and I didn't want to drain the wrong fluid accidentally. Thank you so very much for posting this!!!

Hello Midwest Garage - Thanks for the video. All my life I took my vehicles to have the oil changed...but recently a neighbor did the same thing with his car, brought it back home and the next morning had a pool of oil in his garage. Figuring I'd save some time (and money), I viewed your video to see if I should do future oil changes myself (1996 Chevrolet Silverado). After watching your very systematic, step-by-step method, you can bet that I will be doing my own oil changes in the future. Thank you for the great demo and lesson.

Great video man. Concise and to the point yet thorough enough to cover a bunch of good tips. I've done oil changes before but watching this before doing my '96 Chevy 5.7L made me feel confident I wasn't forgetting something.

Awesome video! Thank you for passing on this valuable information. I recently inherited my dads 98 Chevy Silverado and will be doing my own oil changes from now on! as well as showing anyone who needs one and is willing to do it themselves. Thank you for showing the world what you do so that I could learn this valuable skill, and fish for a lifetime. Ps. You sound like you’re from Texas and therefore with our sponge-like clay soil we have to control the water falling from the roof, I run my dads Rain Gutter company with my mom and worked with her and dad for 8 years, and although you might be a bit far for maintenance or potential “overhaul” I’d be happy to give you any information I have, and even recommended another company who could reach you if needed. God bless.

I change oil at 3000 to 4000 mile intervals. Oil is the engine’s life blood 😊 A rural post office carrier in the southern Rocky Mountains drove the same OBS over 475,000 miles 👍

I always change the oil when it's been thoroughly warmed. On a lot of these you're not going to be able to change the filter from the top/side unless you remove the front left wheel and the splash guard from the inner fender. With the filter conveniently located directly above the front drive shaft - let the oil cool before removal as the oil will run down your arm into the drain pan.

Oil brand doesn't matter? I've seen alot of test ran on oil and motors....oil matters lol. I use to think royal purple was good stuff is absolutely trash oil lol. I switched over to amsoil after watching tests after tests ran on it vs other oil. I've used wix filters for decades...
