Patrick from J&P Cycles shows you how to change the primary fluid on a Harley Davidson Street Glide. Includes every step from oil drain and fill to checking levels, as well as the tools and any replacement parts you may need. For this particular demonstration we used Milwaukee Twins Primary Oil in a 2008 Harley Davidson Street Glide, the process will be similar on most late model Harley big twins.

Tip when pouring your oil in the funnel if you turn the bottle so the neck is on the high side the oil doesn't go glud glud glud and splash. it will pour in a steady stream .

In the primary I empty a full quart bottle, then pour 6 oz of oil in the empty bottle and pour it in. No guess, no over or under fill. Same end, just simpler for me. Also be sure you use the T27 torx! Others "almost" fit, but will mess up your day!

As well as putting in the proper amount of oil in the primary, I always double check the amount of oil that is touching the clutch assembly. Then I'm satisfied.

Charlie Perry its personal preference. The o-rings can be a bit more difficult to install. If you change derby covers sometimes it is necessary to use a derby cover with no center section instead of the solid flat piece from the factory, so in that case a o-ring would be better.

Ladies and gents invest in a service manual- I see a lot of folks asking about torque specs- These amazing videos are great and I appreciate the hell out of them but you really should have a manual that will have all sorts of specs for your particular bike- There was a time when Harley owners did most of their own work except maybe heavy machine shop work and granted that is one of the reasons older bikes often had issues. But the new bikes if you do the work properly you will have the ability to really take care of your bike and have the satisfaction of knowing your bike and all of the benefits that come with it. I cannot tell you how many times I have stopped to help a guy or gal on a bike and they had a ton of bling and stuff installed but no tools, didn't really know much about the bike and if they had a little knowledge and a tool roll, I wouldn't be on the side of the road helping them out. It is also a safety issue if you ride your bike and aren't able to easily and quickly detect a problem then you are not being safe.

What is the weight on the primary fluid? I used royal purple, and now my clutch is slipping... but I saw on another video they specifically said NOT TO USE SYNTHETIC, because it can make the clutch stop slipping... I can testify to that... but I'm sure I can use another brand fluid, when I know wut weight is is... brands definitely welcome, for suggestion...
