Nice video auto doc although some Ways of improvement as too much bad practice here! 1, do not let the caliper hang by the hose, hook a bungee cord onto it and you suspension spring to hold it up out of the way to not stress the hose. 2, these calipers must have the piston wound right back to the stops with the handbrake cable unhooked from the the caliper to reset the handbrake mechanism to account for the new pads or the handbrake will not function correctly and you will get binding and or unbalanced brake force issues. 3, take the caliper slides out clean with brake clean add silicone grease to the bores refit the rubber boots and pins. At the very least check they still move in and out! Failure to do so will ruin your new pads and disks and you will get uneven pad wear or binding should they be stuck. 4. Clean the shims before fitting new pads so they don't stick. 5. Torque specs should be used, especially on brake components.

I just replaced the rear brake discs and pads (purchased from euro car parts £30 with discount all in). I did it on the roadside and used two bricks to stop the car rolling when jacked up. I had to un hook handbrake cable in order to remove pads. The caliper was very hard to get off as hardly any slack or give due to tight or short Hydraulic hose. Impact drill driver needed to remove the disc retaining screws. I kept the old metal clips from my used brake pads and clipped them onto the new ones and also put copper grease where caliper piston pushes. I simply used a very large flat head screwdriver to wind the caliper piston in. Didn't bleed the brakes due to bad weather and lack time. It took two hours including getting all tools out etc. Tested and the brakes are amazing now it can stop really quickly and not even bedded in yet. We'll worth doing for my money. Hope these words help someone like me on a budget.

Good video. Personally I had to disconnect the parning brake cable. It is quite easy. For screwing the piston back in I used a normal screwdriver across the piston. No need for special tool. On the 2012 53000km car 3 of 4 pads were badly stuck so I did some brushing and filing of rusty surfaces and then used copper paste on sliding surfaces.

At what point can any air get into the system? I agree it is an excellent step by step guide and states the tools required. I'm about to do this job on my wife's car saving £250 compared to Honda UK fixed price rear brake disc/pad service! Honda £308 / parts from local store £57.

hydraulic fluid tube doesnt let me fit my tool to remove caliper bolts, can it be bent or something? thanks

Good video but, the two disc retaining screws 2:50 need to be removed with an impact driver, mine were very difficult I had to drill them out in the end. This video makes whole thing look easy which it is, but those two screws can be a difficult job to get off. You can use an impact driver to remove the screws or drill them out with a good quality high-speed (HSS) drill bit.

js1 japan standered screw driver should be use for the retaning screws as not the same as a normal philips

True. Am in the process of trying to remove my discs now. Am now at that stage were you remove those 2 screws believe you me its not a walk in the park!!

I thought you had to line the nipple on the pad with the calliper and make the calliper a just fit. Plus I would clean the sliders and grease them but good video

Informative video, but if this is to be used as a tutorial surely you should explain everything. Not just rough guide. No grease used on anything at all, hubs weren't cleaned and checked for run out. Discs weren't then checked for run out. No bolts tighten to manafacturer recommended torque settings. No clamp used on brake hoses and no fluid bleed from system. Therefore all the crap in brakes would be pushed back into system, instead of being bleed out into bottle. And no mention of fact at end you should tighten lug nuts in specific order. Not trying to nit pick, your videos are helpful. But if you're going to do a tutorial, it should be done right. You'd fail brake technician exam if you did brakes like this

The guide was fine. Time constraints mean this is a basic guide I suppose. You have to fill in the gaps, like greasing and supporting calipers with wire hook etc etc.

He makes removing and replacing the rear callipers look easy but believe me it's not! Fronts no problems.

These older tutorials compared to the newer ones are quite telling. No copper grease on mating surfaces, no cleaning of retaining parts, no lubrication of moving parts, didn't check the handbrake function, left the caliper hanging by the brake hose, no torque settings on any fittings, etc. Back then, I wouldn't let this guy hang out a clothes washing nevermind repair the most important system on my car. Perhaps it's time they redo these old tutorials with modern 'best practice' videos, and delete the very poor practice old ones?
