This is a great tutorial. I’ve been working on my vehicles for almost 20 years, and the attention he passes on towards cleanliness shouldn’t be understated. I was looking for a video to show my girlfriend before teaching her to change her oil and this was perfect.

I got everthing to change my oil in my car yseterday but the guy at the auto store told me 10w-30 but you were using 5w should i go with five

Either one will do but the 5w is a bit thinner and better for winter. 10w I would use in summer

It takes 4 1/2 quarts of oil but how would the ratio change if I put in an oil stabilizer? Since my ford focus is from 2005 and has been through some 190,000 miles it needs it for that dry start. What do you recommend for the ratio on that? Or should I just put in the recommended amount (AFTER) I put in the 4 1/2 quarts of oil? No need to worry about overflow? Ive never worried about it but now that I rewatch this I felt it might be important(again I've always done it that way: 4 1/2 quarts oil and 2 quarts oil stabilizer but I've never had an oil issue?) Appreciate any feedback brotha been using your oil change videos for YEARS!

soratwin I would subtract the amount of stabilizer you use from the amount of oil. Total 4.5 quarts if that’s 2 stabilize and 2.5 regular or 1 stabilize and 3.5 regular as long as total isn’t more than on the dipstick

You know it's really interesting that I've overfilled it before but the dip stick never had oil passed the 'MAX' marking on it regardless I'm going to try this way out now appreciate the help! How often do u gotta change the oil filter? Every oil change?

Andre martinez yes. Every oil change. The filters have a bypass in case they get clogged but it’s a usual maintenance item.

did you have to remove any belly pan shielding?

Mine never came with one. I got it used though. They may have removed it before I bought it.

So you dont have to wrench the filter down? Just hand tighten?

I've seen mechanics remove the air filter when doing an oil change. Any reason why they do that?

Depends on the vehicle I guess. If it’s covering access to the oil fill or something but otherwise I can’t think of a reason

@@ArchesMechanic No wasn't blocking access to the oil filter and the air filter removal wasn't part of the service as i had already changed it myself.
