Awesome video. I have a 2022 Trek Rail watching your videos when I got the bike from my lbs I did my due diligence and regreased and torqued to spec all bolts and bearings. As part of my routing especially riding in winter I wash and dry my bike after rides (when i can) and I do a bolt check the night before rides. This might shock some ...but my bike is pretty silent. I have two buddies that have the Rail and theirs creek and just loud in general. Well maintain bike saves you headache and money in the long run. I love the videos keep it up. Have a great day!

After a 40k ride on my Habit Neo today, the creaking is still very annoying, managed to rule out the crank, seat post and pedals as root cause. Can feel the creaking when holding the suspension pivots and then found the noise is prob due to twisting and when I lean the bike a bit left and right it creaks like mad. So gonna put it in for service in the coming weeks to BikeTech Küttel in Aarau, near where I live. Great video, I’m just not confident enough to try myself…and maybe don’t have all the tools! Now I need to try and source s bearing kit!

Same bearing like on Trek Fuel Ex for 2020-2022. Probably on Slash aswell One more important note, DONT torque UDH to 25NM it will snap. Max 10-12NM. I destroyed mine with torque on 25NM, and had problem to remove it. I used little saw for metal to cut it from inside-out. Very stresfull... Great video!

Thanks for the tips Dave. I had all the bearings replaced by the LBS within 8 months of purchase. Too much creaking. Better bearings were likely installed at that time because there’s no creaking after a year +. I’m now ready for another bearing replacement (have a bearing kit) but I don’t have all the bearing press/puller…yet. Any recommendations for a bearing tool kit? Dave, thank you for the bearing renewal process. I have a question about pivot/bearing maintenance on a Trek Rail (or other eeb). As you know- the pivots and bearings take a fair bit of punishment. What is the best way to keep them tip top? The bike gets a regular clean etc but bearings and their articular surfaces are hard to get to- and WD40 is a no no!! Periodically pulling the pivot bolts out, clean grease and re-insert? Periodically taking the frame apart (like you did at the start) and whacking grease everywhere? Many thanks.
@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic

Hi, Thanks for watching. normally bearings are maintenance free, removing the seals is not a good idea as this may damage the seal letting water in. removing the bolts, greasing them is a must.

Something I do and recommend is popping the rubber/plastic seals and repacking the bearing with lithium marine grease as bearings are usually shipped with grease that is no better than vaseline, that tend to wash out very quckly. Bearings that only pivot I pack 95% full both sides and bearings that spin ~60-70% like bike wheels as they are not a high RPM situation unlike electric motors that rotate at 750-3000 RPM and for longe periods are packed to around 50% anymore and the bearing is at risk of damage and over heating. On an eMTB or MTB you would very rearly reach 400 RPM and only for short periods.

My main pivot bearing are stuck, I've used a brass drift and a bearing extractor that expands inside the inner race. I've sprayed it with loads of penetrating oil and pipe freeze and also a heat gun (very cautiously). @TheYorkshireBikeMechanic
@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic 18 күн бұрын
Hi, thank you for your comment, This is quite common, if you have tried a blind bearing puller which is the best method and that has not worked you will need to revert back to a drift and drift them out from the inside evenly, you might find the inner race will fall out along with the bearings leaving the outer race still in the housing, try and avoid this happening otherwise you will need a dremmel to cut them out. sorry I cant me more help but its not an easy job when they are stuck in the housing. are you local?

Hi, Thanks for watching and your comments, on certain parts of the frame particularly on thin edges the paint/lacquer can be susceptible to coming away from the frame when pressure is applied, whilst I always take care in some cases where bearings are difficult to remove and pain thin it can happen, I always explain to the customer about the possibility that this might happen.

2:45 - my rail that doesn't even have a 1000 km on it is creaking in this bracket, I would say that it is badly designed. If the bearings are under a lot of stress they should be bigger and heavier. The bike is so heavy that adding 100g for a larger bearings and their housing changes nothing. My experience with Trek bikes is that there are some shortcuts taken in the designs.
