Quick tip - make a funnel out of aluminum foil to divert the torque converter fluid. Makes that drain part a lot easier :)

Thanks for making the vid. It helped out big time. I also removed the pan and changed the filter and pan seal. Cheers, John

Glad to help! That was my initial plan for this video but I stripped one of my pan bolts and decided to do it the next time around.

Very helpful, thank you! I paired this video with the "rumble strip noise" fix-- worked like a charm!

You should really drop the pan and change the filter and clean the pan an magnet it’s only 6 more bolts .... really easy.... great job on your van !

That was my plan in this video but I stripped off a bolt on the pan, and decided to just do a fluid change. I plan to do it this winter though!

Thanks, I gave up on the torque converter last night after running into some other problems with my shift plate (don't ask) but am headed back to the van today to fully drain my fluid now. No dirty ass fluid in my trans anymore :D
@projectvagrant81973 жыл бұрын
I totally understand that! I wanted to drop my trans pan and swap the filter but I rounded off a bolt on the pan. I'm actually hoping to do that job in the next couple weeks while at home 🙃 just got a bolt extraction kit 🤞

Just incase someone comes along with a 2006 TN1 sprinter. The plug is front facing and uses a smaller Allen key than the 5mm, a 25 Torx works perfect.

Hello, Thanks for the video! Just curious, did you change the filter under the pan at some point?

I have a 2006 and it has a dipsick with a weird lock thingy on it and "MB workshop only" sign on it.. gotta figure out how to take that off
@projectvagrant81973 жыл бұрын
Usually the transmission has a cap on it that just pulls off, then you can put the dip stick that you buy separately to check the level. The dip stick doesn't actually seat into this tube, it has about 1.5" stick out when fully inserted. Overly complex IMO because it can't be stored in the tube. You can find a dip stick on euro-parts or million mile sprinter

@@projectvagrant8197 oh ok, so that's just a cap then. Thank you

That red clip is disposable lock.

@@tmdad I was able to unlock it and put it back in after I was done changing the fluid, holds on snug 🤷♂️. I guess the words "Mercedes benz shop only" or something like that scared me 😂,

It’s not recommended to change atf filter. Esp if you haven’t been doing it regularly.
@bencochran27602 жыл бұрын
Why do you recommend Titan over say something like Valvoline? It's just way cheaper but like to know your opinion on pros and cons
@projectvagrant81972 жыл бұрын
Are you asking about the trans fluid? If so, I don't recommend a specific brand, I just went with this because I was ordering the parts from MMS and he sold the fluid. I WOULD recommend getting something that is specifically in spec for this van. If you want something cheaper I'd recommend the Shell 134 ATF 👍 it meets the spec and should be good.

What size bit did you use for the transmission drain? Isn't that where the filter is at also?

5mm allen I believe

My atf temp says it’s 58 degrees Celsius in reverse gear when my van is at operating temp. I’m using the mb 2 icarsoft. What should I do?
@projectvagrant81973 жыл бұрын
I believe 58C/136F is an acceptable temp for the atf temp. Are you saying it reads a different temp depending on the gear you're in? I have noticed with my scanner that this happens sometimes. My ATF has gotten up around 212F/100C without issue but usually it stays around 180F

@@projectvagrant8197 my problem is I didn’t run my sprinter for like a month. When I tried to run it next it feels sluggish and does not want to go past 5 mph. I push the gas down all the way and nothing happens in drive. It seems like it’s bogged down. But NO engine lights on.
@projectvagrant81973 жыл бұрын
@@seagull7414 it sounds like possibly limp home mode. Do you have any codes when you check with icarsoft? I'd also post to Sprinter-source. Lots of experienced members there 👍

When you crank the engine clockwise us that looking toward the front or towards the back?
@projectvagrant81973 жыл бұрын
Imagine you're standing in front of the van facing it, turn it clockwise from that perspective.

Going to try this. My van is 15 years old but only 24k miles, you think I should change the fluid.
