He is not infusing carbon with vacuum, just used it to push the weave neatly to the handles while the base cures.

I enjoy watching the manufacturing and conversion of parts to carbon fiber e.g. for weight reduction but what’s the point of wrapping beyond the visual effect? (Not to mention that it also adds weight) You could just buy carbon fiber wrap and get the same look with less effort

@@walterheisenberg1013 , each person may have their own reasons for whatever or whichever path they go with. I don't think that carbon fiber vinyl wrap is going to give you the same look as actual carbon fiber. I do agree with you that the main reason would/should be for its strength and weight reduction. In my particular case, which I mentioned is the inside portion of a headlight housing, there are a couple of reasons why I wouldn't use vinyl. First being potential heat and UV issues, within a sealed unit. that would not be a fun process to re-do in the future. Second being, the curves involved would require multiple pieces of vinyl being cut, stretched, overlapped and fiber patterns will not align properly. Third, my preference would be to replace the current material with CF, when possible, but with the original component having required a complex, multi-sectional mold, that would be an extensive project for a one-off product. And lastly, it's on a Ferrari, so imo, vinyl is not the best way to go. And something like this could be a similar approach. tinyurl.com/458-CF-headlight-insert , so the best of both worlds. But again, in most cases I would agree that the best target would be a 100% CF replacement part, but it's not always feasible and each person must choose what is best for them, regarding ease, costs, appearance and project length.
