This video details how to change the power steering fluid in your Toyota Landcruiser 200 Series with the VDJ200 diesel motor. It is a simple task that would be the same for most automotive brands applications.
Toyota's service book indicates that you only need to inspect this fluid all the way up to 200,000km at which time the book rolls over. I call BS! As you can see from the thumbnail, the fluid is definitely discoloured after a very short distance interval. The results I have seen here means that I will now add replacing my power steering fluid to my maintenance list.
You CAN do this yourself, just watch this video and back yourself, it will work out fine!
This video is part of my Landcruiser Routine Maintenance Video Series that details all the normal routine maintenance items that you can do at home with a simple assortment of tools and a little know how.

Great video Terry. From your samples it looks like 2 flushes and a change more regularly might be able an to produce an equivalent result with less fluid used.
@JafffaAdventures
@JafffaAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
The bulk of the discolouration definitely came out in tyre first two flushes but it did get clearer as I went along. For me I’ll do 8 in total going forward, for a total of 2 litres. It’s very cheap insurance in my view and I’m happy to put in the effort. Thanks for watching mate, I sincerely appreciate it 👍😎

Should have that video published in the next several weeks but not sure of the exact timing. If your subscribed you will not miss it Derek. Could the old oil be the cause for steering rack failure? Recently i had to replace my steering rack which is very weird as i dont do any hardcore offroading and my car has done only 120k.
@JafffaAdventures
@JafffaAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
It is certainly possible mate. As I noted in the video, discoloured fluid is a sign of contamination in the fluid, and/or a change in the chemical properties of the fluid. Neither one of these would be any good for the longevity of the components the fluid is designed to protect. I look at it this way. If dirty oil was not changed out of an engine, we know with certainty that engine wear increases and it’s service life is reduced. I can’t see why power steering fluid and the steering components it’s designed to protect would be any different, just a slower breakdown because there are no combustion gases to deal with. If I’m wrong, then I’m changing the fluid for no benefit and my only loss is the time taken for the swap, and a little bit of money. If I’m right, I could be saving a hefty bill for a new steering rack. I’ll take the swap out path every time. Having said all of this, I’m sure there are bucket loads of cars on the road that have well over 120k on the odometer and had no problems with their power steering rack failing. Thanks for watching mate 👍😎
