I'm a Journeyman and I was just looking around YT to see what kind of tutorials are out there. I came across your tutorial here and let me say that you are a shining beacon of quality in a sea of mediocrity. You gave good info in an easy to understand way....well done sir. Thank you for paying it forward and giving "laymen" the info and warnings they would need to complete a task correctly and safely. Peace.

After watching this video I have now thought of the many reasons to not use that meter in a panel and must say "THANK YOU" as I was likely to be the guy that does that with out thinking about it. Possibly as soon as next week. Glad I saw your video - You may have saved me from serious injury !

Tyrone, your tutorial with simple, yet very thoughtful explanations has been very valuable to me. Too often, people showing tutorials in KZfaq just throw out there the mechanics, but you went further and, where appropriate, enriched the steps with the reasoning behind the process. Very well done and keep up the good work!!!

Sir I just want to thank you because I am a newbie when it comes to learning how to read a multimeter! I have been a electrician's helper many of many of times so I'm definitely comfortable hooking up receptacles and light switches and grounding and things of that nature! With that being said I am a new owner of a Klein Tools mm200 multimeter! I've got plenty of issues going on for me to learn how to read this multimeter! I've got a 99 Camaro that has several different electrical problems! That is not the main issue though, in May of last year my wife and I lost everything to my house fire in a mobile home with no insurance and it was an electrical fire! I have purchased another mobile home but it needed everything Remodel and replaced and updated! I've actually got a video on my channel of the house that I just purchased for $300. I'm a truck driver and I work a lot of hours, I only get to work on this house on the weekends! We are staying with my in-laws and I promise I'm not lying when I say it's time for us to get our own place quick LOL. I really need an electrician but I cannot afford one so therefore that's why I'm learning all of this on my own! My main thing is knowing if I need to replace all of the wires in this house? Knowing if they are on the correct Breakers? I have replaced every light switch and receptacle! I stabbed some in the back of the receptacles and the light switches because that's the way they were moved up from the factory! I've been found out that was a bad idea so now I'm in the process I'm actually cooking them around screws like they're supposed to be and using pigtails with wire nuts! I understand DC and ac voltage oh, I understand continuity, on gives me a little bit of problems because I guess I don't understand what kind of reading I should have for the resistance on what I'm trying to measure if that makes sense? Sorry this is so long I'm talking into my phone as it's texting everything out LOL. My main problem is amperage! I am extremely lost, I know that it is the current that flows through the conductors! But it goes back to knowing what the meter should read? But then again you saved my life I'm sure because I was going to use my multimeter with the Leeds to check for amperage. Now I will try to save up my money to buy a correct meter. I wish I could talk to you one on one somehow. But I want to thank you for going into detail like you have! You are helping people more than you know sir!

Another nice tutorial. Your point about not using a regular DMM to test current is well explained. btw...there IS a way to still use a DMM, which is what I have: a Fluke i410 AC/DC current clamp This is a current clamp without a display of its own that plugs into the voltage test sockets on a DMM, then you measure current on the voltage setting through that.

Thanks for teaching in laymen terms of understanding. It's obvious you know our stuff & but you're so good at breaking it down for common people like me whom may not be so sophisticated talking big words. I hate it when people talk those $5 & $10 words opposed to just talking the .25 to .50 cent words & or stipulating on unnecessary procedure or complicating it further than it needs be. L.O.L You keep it down to earth & on most peoples level & I really like that & again Thanks

Thanks Tyrone, I have been hoping to find someone who knows electrical without going over everyone's heads. I have a ac clamp on but had no idea how to use it. I want to find overloads and split them up evenly. This is a great way to know how much is on each line as long as they are being used. lights are easy just flip them on. outlets are more of a pain but can be checked by plugging in a light with same amp pull in each outlet in series. Then write down how many outlets on that curcuit and where they are located. At least then if that curcuit pops you can go see what was plugged in that overloaded it. keep up the good work. I just subscribed.

TY, using 10/4 generator cord how far can that cable/wire run, can I run it 125 feet from the inlet box mounted outside the house to an enclosure for the generator which would be 125 feet away. can I go that far or would I lose amps. I know that they sell 100 foot cord but I can make one since they sell it by the foot Thanks Al
@Tyrone3340
@Tyrone3340 10 жыл бұрын
Hey Al when running wire long distances what happens is the voltage drops. you do not want any more than 5% to the furthest outlet. the basic formula for computing voltage drop is Vd=K*L*I(SQUARED)/CMA OR CMA=K*L*I(SQUARED)/WVD k is specific resistance of the wire L is the length of the run, I is the load on the circuit in amps, cma is the circular mil area of the wire and wvd is your wanted voltage drop.

I greatly appreciate the tutorial on AC current testing. I must compliment your skill in the electrical field, as well as the safety of NEVER testing AC current on a regular dig. meter. I myself aquire a degree/ certificate in the electronic technology trade. AC/DC troubleshooting and repair. However I am inclined to ask you if your company is nation wide or just in your area. I have been trying to get my foot in the door, yet no company I'VE applied with will contact me. My question is how I can Excell with a company similar to yours? I have alway been interested in and always will be an electronics nut..and believe that I could be an asset. Tyrone all I ask for is a quick paragraph in reference to my ability to expand and grow in the field I Love.... Thank You, Thomas Conklin
@Tyrone3340

+Thomas Conklin For electronics the closet thing to what you want that could suggest would be industrial controls and automation. This actually what I have been doing for the past 25 years and with a 2 year AA most company's will start you at an entry level position. Most good company's will also send to equipment specific training classes. This is the path that I would recommend you take, so search the job boards for keywords like electrical maintenance, electrical technician etc. Good Luck and God Bless

Great videos Tyrone. No, you do not ramble on... so keep doing what your doing! Quick question. I need to switch from a 30 amp 240 v breaker to a 60 amp 240 v; is there anything I need to do or know beforehand or, can I just swap them? (FYI: I'm switching from a 30 gallon water heater to a tankless.)
@Tyrone3340
@Tyrone3340 9 жыл бұрын
No you can't just switch the breaker. The cable running to the water heater has to be sized with the breaker. If you had a 30a heater you probably have 10awg running to the heater. If you increase the breaker size to 60a you have to increase the cable size to 6awg.

@@Tyrone3340 no problem man, I'm an electrician also (8.5 years in the trade) and I totally understand what you were saying about the sine waves in AC flow. Also understood why it wasn't the right time to go into details of that in this particular video lol. Great demonstration of your video in the meantime though....#Columbia, SC
