How to check Trans Fluid Level

In this video I show you how to check the transmission fluid level in my 2012 Ford SVT Raptor with the 6r80 transmission. The process is the same for all F150s that came with the 6r80 trans. It is a very simple process and all you need is a pair of thickish gloves and a 19mm wrench.

You can also use a welding glove or welding sleeve to protect your forearm from the hot catalytic converter while checking your fluid.

Were you able to find a torque spec for the plug on the dorman pan? Want to make sure it’s tight enough to crush the lock washer and not sure if it already comes tight enough

It's Dorman 265-854. I think I got it on Amazon.

Why isn't there a cold mark on the dipstick? I feel like that would make things easier, even if you learned where it is and made your own mark.

I agree. But my guess is with the dipstick being so short, and having to start it to check the level anyways, they just want it warm.

do you add fluid via the dipstick port? if so, how? Thanks

Yup! You have two options, you can use a little pump that screws into the top of an oil jug or a suction pump. You stick the end of the pump into the fluid, pull up on the plunger and then squeeze it into the hole. Both options are available at parts stores. I prefer the suction pump.

Im not being a youtube warrior here , you make quality videos . I believe your wrong with this vid . If your engine is off and you pull the dipstick fluid should come out if level is correct . When the engine is running fluid gets sucked up into tranny . Only way to correctly check is engine running and at near operating temperature. I think your low a decent amount . Again pulling dipstick out with engine off you should have fluid coming out .

I appreciate you pointing that out. But I clearly state, more then once, to make sure your truck is running as you check the fluid level. I had the truck off for filming purposes otherwise the video would sound like garbage. And for anyone who is watching this to learn and are unsure about checking the fluid level here are the steps. 1. Start truck and let warm up. 2. With truck running remove dipstick with 19mm wrench and check fluid level, add as necessary. 3. Replace dipstick. 4. Go have fun in your Raptor knowing the trans level is good!
