What kind of LED hoop have you used so far? I use Future Hoop Pros from moodhoops.com/r/spinjoy/ They use 3M grip tape inside which is super grippy if you're having trouble with them being too slippery. Let me know if you need any help finding a hoop. If you go with MoodHoops, SPINJOY code will get you a discount xx

Is Hoop Dancing big in Australia? So far all the main tutorials I've found online are dancers from Aus. :) I'm in US.
@SpinJoyHoopDance
@SpinJoyHoopDance 3 жыл бұрын
There are nowhere near as many hoopers in Australia as there are in the US, but we do have a solid crew of Aussies who are very passionate about it and it's been growing in popularity for the last 10 years. We have a very dance based style over here I think compared to a lot of hoopers around the world who gravitate more to the smaller light weight hoop tricks. I think this is because of hoop availability (we have great dance weight hoops here in Australia which are ideal for on body hooping) and what the main teachers are pushing to drive the culture and hoop style. 🥰❤️

Hey lovely lady! I have a question please🥰: I bought an 88cm LED hoop to learn to practice dancing on! I’m not a complete beginner as I’m good at waist hooping & spinning around on my hands…… The hoop is bigger than I thought it would be. 😋 I’m really wanting to do full body/arm tricks/dancing… do you think I should keep this hoop or return it to get the 85cm LED hoop ? Thank you so so so much 🥰🥰🥰

Hi hun, congrats on your new hoop, how exciting :D Can you let me know how tall you are and what your dress/shirt size is? For reference, I'm 5'8 tall and size 10 AU. I started on a 100cm dance hoop which is pretty big. It's heavy for hand tricks but makes learning complex tricks like the vortex and lifts off your body a lot easier. The LED hula hoops I perform with are 90cm and I also use 90cm dance hoops as standard now that i've progressed along with my hula hooping (i downsized after a few months of learning). I personally do a lot of on body dancing. So when i'm performing with LEDs and dancing for long periods on my body, the bigger weighted hoops mean I don't have to exert as much energy to keep them going (i'd be having to frantically push with a smaller hoop to maintain chest and waist hooping like I do). That being said, majority of hula hoopers do more off body tricks with their LEDs. Another thing to note, is this LED your ONLY hula hoop? If it is the sole hoop you own, I would stay on the larger for learning tricks. If you have another normal big hula hoop you can practice and learn on, I dont think it hurts to size down for your fun LED hoops. LEDs have a fair bit more weight to them with all the computer shiz going on inside of them. It makes them feel a lot heavier and clunkier than regular hoops. If it's down to a matter of 3cm difference, i'm not sure its such a huge deal. If you're not loving it, i'd just size down.

@@SpinJoyHoopDance Hey, thank you for your reply, appreciate it so much!! :) I ended up exchanging for the 85cm LED and also got a normal, polypro hoop 85cm as I realised I needed something 2 practice on! Can I use this beginner hula hoop for off body moves or it should be little smaller?
@SpinJoyHoopDance
@SpinJoyHoopDance 3 жыл бұрын
You can definitely start doing off body moves with your beginner hoop. I always teach my beginners a full routine with their beginner hoop including a lot of on body and off body moves. There's heaaapppss you can do with a larger hoop and while a lot of people do eventually choose to downside in hula hoop when they're able to, it's not even necessary. You can stick with a "beginner" hoop forever if you wanted to. There are a number of off body tricks that you would require a small, light weight hoop for very specifically...things like wedgies, coin flips, fast paddles and breaks etc. I encourage my students to stick with one hoop size for as long as possible to master moves and dance that can incorporate both their waist and off body hooping, rather than needing to jump between hoop sizes during a session. Though you can do whatever makes you haappppyyy!! 😜😜😍 The only caveat to all of this HOWEVER is...if you are a bigger person, have a belly/larger waist circumference, your waist hooping hoop may be too large to spin on your hands/hit the floor etc. In this case, that size would be too big for majority of off body tricks. So then it would be a good idea to have one hoop for waist hooping and another hoop for all the other tricks. In reality...most hoopers end up having a good 6-10 hoops of various sizes and styles in their collection eventually. They don't all need to happen at once but if you get into this activity you're probably going to want to experiment and play around a bit. Find a hoop and style that suits you and you love. I hope that all helps hun!! Xoxox

Which hula hoops are better ? The light ones or those which weigh a little?
@SpinJoyHoopDance
@SpinJoyHoopDance 3 жыл бұрын
The heavier bigger ones are better if you're starting out and wanting to learn to hula hoop on your body. The lighter ones are good for off body tricks and much harder to spin on your waist/chest/legs etc

So wat if you want it to be on your body and off for dancing
@SpinJoyHoopDance
@SpinJoyHoopDance 3 ай бұрын
You start with whatever dance hoop is suitable for your body type. Even the larger ones can be spun off-body but starting too small and light weight will make it virtually impossible to learn to spin on body. If after time, you feel like you want to go smaller, to make off body tricks faster, downsize from there. Though many people don't need to change hoop at all. Alternatively, you can get two different sized hoops and practice different hoop styles at the same time. The main point here is that a dance hoop (versus a chunky fitness hoop /the plastic bulby ones or the metal ones covered in foam) is going to be suitable for hoop dance and to make sure it's big enough to accommodate your size and waist circumference. Hope that helps

I want to buy a hula hoop, I’m 178cm tall and want to use it for dancing. I’m a beginner, which hoop would you recommend? A 60cm or rather a 90cm? After the video I tend to 90cm but I’m still not sure.. also good video!
@SpinJoyHoopDance
@SpinJoyHoopDance 3 жыл бұрын
I would say 100% a 60cm hoop is way too small. Based on your height, I would recommend a 95-100cm dance hoop. If you carry a bit more weight around your waist, I would go 100cm - 112cm. Happy to help you out if you would like to send me your specifics on email. Also my Foundations of Hoop Dance online course (which this video is from) is $99AUD and comes with a $30 store credit towards your first hoop. courses.spinjoy.com.au/courses/spinjoy-foundations-of-hula-hoop-dance

Hey there! For a kid, I would suggest starting her on the cheap kids toys you can find in dollar stores. They're not going to last very long and the light weight of them may make them challenging (for some kids/for ALL adults) to waist hoop, but they are great for the arms of little ones. If she gets really into it, i'd for sure invest in a proper weighted dance hoop for her. Possibly in an 80cm diameter. Having that for her on body hula hooping and the cheapy dollar store hoop will have her set for all the tricks. Please message me if you need any further info! info@spinjoy.com.au

For burning fat, lighter or heavier one to use??
@SpinJoyHoopDance
@SpinJoyHoopDance 3 жыл бұрын
The difference is marginal. If your hoop is lighter you will have to work a lot harder to keep it going. My recommendation is finding whatever size weighted dance hoop is appropriate for your body size, as the real measure of whether it will be a good workout is how much you enjoy doing it and want to stick with it. If you pick a hoop that is too small and light that you can't keep it going, you'll get frustrated and not want to hoop for long. Hope that makes sense! Happy to help you pick a size of you want to send me your specs ❤️

Hi Harshini! I would recommend a 90-95cm dance hoop for you. If you carry a bit of extra weight around your middle, go the 95cm. Or if you carry a lot of weight around your mid-section, it could be a good idea to go up to a 100cm hoop. Hi Hannah. I specifically didn't go into much detail about the size and weight of the hoops in this video as I think generally it's more important for people to focus of the size of the hoop relative to their body than worry too much about trying to get a perfect weight or size. With hoop dance as a sport, there are two main types of hula hoop (weighted dance hoops and light weight poylpro hoops). Depending on the size, weighted dance hoops can range from approx 35ograms - 500grams. There are a bunch of variables with this, including the size of the hoop, the type of plastic used, the thickness of the pipe and whether the hoop is taped or not. Polypro hoops can also range from 100grams - 250grams roughly, same as above on the variations. Specifically in this video, keeping in mind I am 5'8 (173cm) tall and a size 10 AU: The yellow hoop in the intro is a 90cm weighted dance hoop (approx 300grams) The large pink and blue hoop is 108cm/25mm thick pipe (approx 500grams) Orange hoop is 100cm weighted dance hoop (approx 350grams) The small rainbow hoop is a lightweight polypro 80cm (approx 200grams) Hope that helps!!

Hey Mahek! Beginner hoops are generally around 350-600grams depending on the size etc. This is a rough guide though. Going lighter than 300grams is getting into "too light" territory. Heavier is definitely easier when learning. In terms of size...i'd say at least reaching to your hip height or close to your belly button. If you are carrying extra weight around your waist, i'd recommend going bigger than this though.
