How to CLEAN a VINTAGE TEAPOT - from dirty to pouring tea for tea time!

Cleaning an antique, vintage, or thrifted teapot is easy! With just a little love and time, you’ll have your new treasure pouring a perfect cup of tea in no time!
If you’d rather read then watch, here are the basics:
○ Add your teapot to a cloth-lined bowl in your sink (this will help protect and cradle the teapot.
○ Drop in an unscented polydent tablet (yep, those tabs that are good enough (and safe enough) to get our fake teeth shinning and cleaning)
○ Add in warm water, and let it overfill a bit, making sure the spout is full
○ Let it sit for 30 minutes to 2 hours.
○ With a soft cloth, start scrubbing/washing the teapot. Using a bottle brush (or straw brush) for the spout, and a toothpick for the little air hole. ○
○ Be sure to touch your teapot all over, looking for little imperfections that could be an issue.
○ Rinse the teapot with warm water making sure the spout is well rinsed too.
○ Now fill the teapot with warm water and gentle dish soap. Let it soak again.
○ Come back and repeat the soft scrubbing process.
○ Empty, rinse, and dry
○ Now fill with boiling water, let it sit for a bit, then empty and dry.
○ Finally - ready for your first pot of tea! Enjoy!

It's a pretty teapot. Yay to polident. I use it to clean ceramic vases with a neck. It worked a treat on that little pot. Thanks Jann!

Never would have thought to use polident but it makes sense! That teapot looks really sweet and I love your teacup too. Does Zoey get along with Phoebe and Gary?

It’s such a great tool to use, and I never feel odd about using them because they are meant for something for a mouth! Zoey is an indoor/outdoor cat from the neighbours and Gary and Phoebe stay inside. They see each other through the windows and Zoey hisses half heartedly at Gary but runs when she sees Phoebe. 😻😂😻 thanks for joining me 💕

You ought to look at the inside bottom of the spout. It is not visible to the eyes, but use a flashlight and there may be a lot of old tea grime that's hardened in there that you can't just wash off with polident or dish soap. It is stuck/hardened.

Hi just found your channel. Bought my 1st Brown Betty about a month ago, working on making & serving the perfect cup of tea. Early on I read its best to put loose leaf tea in pot as you did here. I use an over the cup strainer as you did. My question is how do you pour it so all the tea leaves don't come out? I always have a mountain of tea in my strainer.

Yay - welcome and thank you so much for being here. Also, sorry for the delayed response, I have been healing. Many of the teapots have a strainer inside them (usually the holes are too big, and some comes out), however, if the majority of your tea is coming out, you have a couple of options. One: use a paper filter, metal ball, or mesh infuser insert to contain the leaves (not ideal, but it does work), Second option: you can buy a little pre-filter mesh plug that you insert into your teapot. Works very well, with only small bits getting out. Hope that helps :) and thank you again for being here :)

Hi Jan thank you for this video. Last week I found a very expensive teapot for less than $40!! But it has some stained crazing marks on the interior and a tiny bit on the exterior.... I'm going to try this later, I'll let you know how it goes :)

Oooooooh yay! Be careful with letting tea sit too long in it. I forgot to empty my pot and it sat overnight and the tea stained the crazing on the outside. I was so sad. And it’s stained so badly I cannot get it out of this one. Sighs. Must have just been too deep for it. Thanks for letting me know. I’m so happy it worked for you. 💕🙌🥰

Hi I need major help I got a teacup set off Ebay and it stinks of smoke I'm already having breathing issues due to my asthma opening it it has a pearlescent glaze on it ect will this method work

The tea pot I have the spout doesn't connect to the rest of the pot, instead of a big opening it has little holes. I can't seem to get the gunk out from the spot because the brush can't scrub the inside of the spout where it gets wide. Any tips for cleaning that?

Oooh I think I know what you’re talking about. I use small straw brushes and bend them to get them in. It’s sometimes very difficult on the small pots though. Let me know if that helps. 🤞 for you 🥰🙌
