If you own a pair of Hunter rain boots, there are two things I can say with certainty.
The first thing is that you love them. The second, is that over time, your Hunter boots get covered with a white patchy film.
The truth is that once in a while your boots need a little TLC. Before you run out and grab the most expensive rubber cleaner, read this first. I have a better idea.
Today I will show you how to clean and shine your Hunter boots with something you already have in your kitchen-olive oil.
Wait, what?
Yup, olive oils is the perfect cleaner (and shiner) for your Hunter boots. Here are three reason why:
1. olive oil is an all-natural ingredient
2. it’s also something you’re already likely to have
3. it’s budget friendly
4. it’s quick and easy to use
5. It’s an all-in-one “product”
So let’s put olive oil to the test and see how well it cleans my own Hunter boots.
What You Will Need To Clean Your Hunter Boots
All you need are these three things. First, you’ll need your Hunter boots. Obviously.
Second, you’ll need olive oil (or any other liquid vegetable oil). Third you’ll need some paper towels. That’s it.
How To Clean Your Boots
It’s super easy! Here is how it’s done.
Dab some olive oil onto a paper towel. Take the paper towel and start workign the oil onto the surface of the boot. With circular buffing motions, go over the entire surface of the boot. Make sure to work the oil into every crack and crevis. Repeat on the second boot.
Take a clean paper towel and go over both boots with a buffing motion. This will help take off any excess oil.
And you’re done.
Thanks for watching!

I cleaned my wife's Hunter rain boots and applied olive oil and they looked great as soon as I was done, but the "bloom" returned once the oil dried. I recleaned the boots using some Einszett products I would normally use on car tires and rubber trim pieces, then applied a tire conditioning product called Adam's Super VRT. This worked perfect and brought the boots back to life again. I wouldn't suggest a regular tire shine (Armor All, etc.) unless you want a greasy wet looking finish, but using one that is meant to condition the rubber to prevent cracking and leave a matte finish seems to be the way to go, IMO.

Excuse me Miss Irbe, but I just wanted to say Thank You for showing us this technique. I was invited to shine my Friend's red gloss Hunter wellies at the weekend and I adopted Your olive oil technique. She was delighted with the shiny gloss polish. Thank You once again. 🙇🏻‍♂️

Thanks for the video! I feel like something that needs to be said is that they should be dusted off first or wiped down with a warm wet rag so you are not grinding any dust or corrosive films deeper into the boot.

I came here to clean my Coach boots too ... this is not good for them you'll see why when they absorb it it even says on the box not to oil them lol BTW Coach sells products specifically made for the different materials and leathers they use. I guess you got yours at a Goodwill or similar place but still you should take care of them properly. 😂👢

Rubber boots are molded, and to remove the boot from the mold, they use a powder material that melts in with the rubber a bit also, yet it still seeps out over time, and if im not mistaken, this is my best guess.. I, too, have red rubber sperry salt waters that do this.. I use a Mr.Clean sponge to get scuffs out yet could never get that hue out so ty!!

The white film on your boot is a natural process which occasionally happens with natural rubber. Insoluble particles rise to the surface of the rubber resulting in what’s called blooming. Olive oil works but eventually it will ruin the boot, trust me. KY Jelly works better but spend the money and get some boot shine.

In humid or hot weather, your boots may develop white marks or a similar film, which is often called “blooming.” This is caused by compounds in the rubber rising to the surface. This is completely natural and will not harm your boots.

The white film is a reaction of the natural rubber, I'll try this on my burberry rain boots, I tried with coconut oil but the white film came back quickly, lets see how it goes with olive oil.

My Hunter boots are a size 9 & I can wear thick socks with them. I am typically a size 8.5-9 in shoes, so I would say they fit right on point. Sure! I'll do a video in the next few days, which should hopefully help you get a better idea of how they fit.

Hello. I tried this with my black hunter boots but the white film quickly came back.
@yanairbe
@yanairbe 7 жыл бұрын
In my experience, that white film does come back after some time of wearing the boots (they same way shoes get dirty). I did a bunch of research on this, and from everything I have read, this is normal. The white film is a reaction of natural rubber to the environment, so how often you get that white film back depends on what it's exposed to. For me they last for about 2 weeks without showing bloom. If I wear them in the city, I noticed they last a little less for whatever reason, maybe salt or chemicals. I wish there was a one-time-and-done kind of a cure but so far, this is the best/cheapest/easiest solutions that I could find.

I watched this this morning and it reminded me to get new Hunter Boot cleaner (sponge and boot shine). I talked to Hunter customer care about this a while ago and want to get your opinion. I love my boots shiny and glossy, but I don't want to damage them. If I apply olive oil at the very end of cleaning them, will the chemical damage the boots? Also, I do have my own channel on KZfaq public (with music material). I know its not what you have on your channel; I just wanted to let you know. Speaking of, I see a lot of videos with ladies and women with glossy Hunter boots, but not guys. There's very little content because guys don't wear them since they are (girly), and guys don't see them the same way ladies do (they may see them as a tool vs. a fashion accessory). If I made a video explaining why I choose to wear them, do you really think my video will be seen, or will people ignore it? I can take a little constructive criticism on this.

+Jason Anschutz Music I've never used the cleaner so I'm not sure, but if it's by Hunter Boots, I'm sure it will work fine. I know guys watch videos about style too, so I'm sure that there are going to be guys interested in watching your video! Don't be afraid to make it! 😊

Using a silicone oil meant for latex clothes/condoms will work much better or something like armor all or other rubber conditioners. Just be careful if you're getting something meant for cars or such to make sure it doesn't have any petroleum solvents in it.

Cleaning rubberboots by useing ANY SALAD OIL is the foolishst way to do this, because the structure of natural rubber will be destroyd by this way. Rubber will become cracked! Greaseing anything by useing salad oil is also a great mistake, because salad oil will get sticky and hard. This oil should only be used for preparing food, You should ONLY use SILICONE OIL or special products offered by manufacturer of rubberboots, otherwise, they will be destroyed.
@driftertravels928

goldbear2 ..I use food-grade silicone grease for my rubber wellies, but any general silicone -based lubricant that has no petroleum solvents will work as well, even silicone lube that can be used for rubber condoms will work too :) yes, oil and petroleum based substances will destroy rubber, especially natural rubber.

Please don’t clean any type of rubber product with oil! Oil breaks down rubber and plastics. This is why you should not use oil based lubricants with condoms. Use products made for rubber to clean your boots.

Yikes!!! Exposing your boots to olive oil it’s self is not harmful, but as it sits and becomes rancid after oxidation it can become a breeding ground for coliform bacterial, mold and other fungi. Especially after being exposed to any kind of precipitation/moisture or prolonged oxidation. Is it really worth exposing yourself to e.Coli just to have shiny boots? You really didn’t think this through did you lol?
