Arrival/Unboxing Video: • Automatic Litter Box: ...
The Litter-Robot III Open Air Automatic Litter Box is a self-cleaning litter box that is very sophisticated. It has a self-adjusting weight sensor that knows when your cat is inside using it (so you don’t have to worry about it cycling when your kitty is inside of the litter box). After each use, a timer counts down until it cycles, which is great because it allows the kitty to be way finished with their business before it cycles. It is also good for clumping litter, so that the clump has time to set. After that, the sifting system cycles automatically and dumps the clumps and waste into a drawer below. Once the drawer is full of waste, an indicator light lets you know that it’s time to empty it. Someone was thinking when they designed this puppy. It’s made in the USA and comes with a 90-Day Money-Back Guarantee and 18-Month warranty.

Rather than using water/vinegar and a brush, I use Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner and a toilet brush. The Scrubbing Bubbles kills the germs and does a fantastic job of eliminating any odor. I haven't found that it's necessary to take it outside and use a hose. I just let it stay on there for about 15 minutes and then wipe off with a damp spong---really simple!
@Floppycats
@Floppycats 7 жыл бұрын
i'd be concerned about the chemicals in scrubbing bubbles and the residue left for the cats to have direct contact with and lick off of themselves later.
@Mrdahaase
@Mrdahaase 7 жыл бұрын
You are correct, even though I haven't seen any ill-effects. I contacted the manufacturer. They do not recommend Scrubbing Bubbles....however looking around the internet I found a product line called "Clean+Green" that has a spray made for cat litter boxes, appears safe for cats and has a 4.5-star rating on Amazon...will switch. The toilet bowl brush and a good wet sponge work great.
@Floppycats
@Floppycats 7 жыл бұрын
sounds like you found an alternative. i am not sure about that - but sounds better than scrubbing bubbles. hope it's a toilet bowl brush only used for the litter robot! i know i wouldn't want to walk where a used toilet brush had been! i just try to be VERY conscious of products used that my cats walk on or lay on, since they lick themselves all the time.

Thank you! Mine is looking pretty bad so I'm happy to finally know how to clean it. So far I've tried 4 different scooping litters and have yet to find one that really works. Would you mind sharing the type of litter you use? I have 3 cats and it's rare the box doesn't have some sort of smell. With my old cat box I used pine pellet litter and and there was never any smell. And, unfortunately I can't use the pine litter with this box-it doesn't clump properly. With these clay-type scooping litters I'm not sure what's worse, the added fragrances or the cat odors. So, if you don't mind, please tell me which type of litter you use. Thank you!

Thank you. I ended up going back to my old litter box. As much as I love the idea and convenience, I just really struggled with the clay clumping litter and the horrible smell. I tried 6 different litters and they all stuck to the rubber-maybe the Arm & Hammer won't stick, but the smell is too much. My 3 cats share one box pretty well and I just change it every other day. I really love Trader Joe's Pine pellet litter and my house never smells like a cat box.

I had an original "bot" way back when. Huge investment then and still now, but I am happy to see that the cat(s) don't have to go into the black hole of doom. LOL I hated trying to see what was inside, had to use flashlight, it did stink after awhile and putting it in the sun wasn't an option at my condo. I do know that some people would take it to a self wash car wash and clean it that way. One cat would use it (she was small), but the other never got the turn around thing, put head outside of dome, she invariably pee'd on the step which at that time was not removable so gross. She finally gave the "bot" a kitty finger and went on the floor. I do see that a lot of improvements have been made since it's inception and that is a good thing. People do need to realize the size of this thing, even looking at all the videos at the time and taking measurements the size once unboxed did surprise me. As you state, the cost is up to the person if they feel they have the room and if it makes sense for their particular physical needs.

Yes, the Internal Shield can be removed. To remove it, you will need a Phillips head screwdriver. Remove the screw from the center of the black key on the back of the globe. Once the key is removed, you can easily pull the shield out from the entrance of the globe. To put it back on, just reverse the process [it can be a little tricky to line it up properly, but it'll get into place with a little wiggling :) ] If you ever decided to leave the internal shield off, please let us know and we'll send you a small plug for the hole it would create. The internal shield is not required for the Litter-Robot to function. I hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any questions at support@litter-robot.com

Thank you for video, how often do you add new litter. My concern is that this would need cleaned everytime I added new litter which is how I clean my current boxes. I would never put clean litter into this without cleaning it so to me this is alot more work than the current models.
@Floppycats
@Floppycats 4 жыл бұрын
i probably add a scoop or two of new litter every other week. i don't really keep track, to be honest - but not every week. i have 5 litterboxes for 2 cats, so my situation is going to be different anyway. the way it's cleaned in this video is only done about every 6 months, otherwise it isn't necessary for our household. but it's all subjective based on your cats' diet, age, etc. so there's no way to know what will work for you based off of my experience. i wonder though, if you understand how it works, because this comment - "I would never put clean litter into this without cleaning it " - doesn't really make sense - as you would be wasting a lot of perfectly fine, unused litter. does that make sense?
@hollyr8788
@hollyr8788 4 жыл бұрын
Floppycats TY for the reply, I assume it screens the used litter and dumps it in the bottom after each use? Is there more to it? My concern is when a cat goes they spread all the litter around to cover their business. Not all the litter is going to clump but will still be mixed around with the dirty when the cat is maneuvering it all over the place. That litter imo will start to have an odor and is not actually clean like fresh litter. I use scoopable litter and I scoop daily sometimes several times a day and the box starts to smell after a week or 2 just from the urine that goes through the litter onto the bottom of the box. So I empty it out and wash the cat box when I change my litter. How would this not be the same way? My one male seems to go all over too it sprays on the lid, sides, everywhere you would think a horse was using his cat box. I maybe totally wrong about this and I hope I am because I would love to have something simple.
@hollyr8788

@@hollyr8788 I understand what you're saying as I have regular boxes too - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/idt7da5ovtnPqY0.html - but I don't have that problem with the LR that I have with the regular boxes. My male cats do squat to pee (thank goodness), but because of how it's sifted, we don't have chunks or bits in the LR3s. "So I empty it out and wash the cat box when I change my litter." - Yes, I do that with my regular boxes too - but sometimes I just wipe it down and add more litter - I don't overhaul the litter completely with my regular boxes either. What litter are you currently using? The LR3s have carbon filters that help with the stink. I do not have a problem with those smelling.

I am still on the fence in buying this. It looks too large and bulky for my small apartment. It is quite a task cleaning smelly litter boxes from my two cats. But I've noticed feeding them quality can food or especially freeze dry raw food makes their feces smell less. I do have a male Ragdoll kitten (5 months old) that pees like crazy. The clumps are huge. Not sure if this unit would be able to handle that.

understood. it's a big purchase - and even though you can return it, you are still out the shipping cost back to LR if you don't like it. my guess is my adult ragdoll cats on all wet food diets have larger pee clumps than your kitten =). but yes, the clumps can sometimes be too big. sometimes - but that's easy - you just cycle it and they eventually drop down. they have a cabinet thing you can buy to put on top of it - so that you can have a shelf or whatever (so maybe it would be a good way for you to make space of it). and yes, if you read catinfo.org you will learn that a cat's diet has a lot to do with how much their feces smells. please let me know if you have any other questions.

Does water get under the rubber when you hose it and not easily dry?

I have not experienced this. But asked Litter-Robot if they had heard otherwise, and they said, "No, that's not something we hear of or experience. If it ever did happen though, the liner can be removed so it could be dried."

we use dr. elsey's precious cat ultra amzn.to/2LFg0Hc - but might also have to do with diet and the timing of the litter-robot if it's sticking. have you contacted their customer service? here's the link to that - bit.ly/3nvtZCo

every 6 months or so - just depends on the usage and the cat's output - it would be subjective for sure.

Probably shouldn't have used vinegar. Vinegar is a natural deterrent for cats. They hate vinegar, it repels them. Also using gloves when cleaning fecal matter makes more sense. Good video to show how to take it apart for cleaning.

ha ha ha - thanks. i always rinse away the diluted with water vinegar mixture - the cats never have a problem. and well, feces...not a big deal for me. but yes! if i was the manufacturer - yes, i should have worn gloves =)

it's important to always be aware of what your kitties will be walking on, laying on, etc - and be aware of what you clean with that might leave a residue. i have heard the weirdest things from weirdo allergies to death from air fresheners.

I have 11 cats and own three of these. (Plus I have two regular boxes for two special needs cats) These boxes are saving me serious money on litter and time. Kids will clean up without arguing. Eventually they will pay for themselves in litter costs.

I made the mistake of removing the black, rubber lining on mine to clean it. Now it is impossible to get back on correctly. It's currently being held on by duct tape.
@LitterRobot
@LitterRobot 7 жыл бұрын
The liner can be a bit tricky to get back on! But don't worry, it can be done. I've included some of our tips below, but please don't hesitate to contact Customer Service for further assistance at support@litter-robot.com or 877-250-7729. First, double check that the weight on the underside of the rubber liner is secured in its pocket. You don't want to reinstall the liner only to find that the weight fell out and you have to redo it! Then, center the liner on the entryway and in the bowl of the Globe. Locate the pre-cut slip in the liner, just behind the built-in fence. From the underside of the Globe, screw the pan head screw up through the existing hole and through the slit in the liner. Then, screw the nut on. Note: It may take a moment to push the liner onto the bolt, but it must fit tightly; do not enlarge the hole. At the top of the opening (what would be the entryway), hook the liner into the left and right slots and then wrap the liner around the lip of the globe. There is slack in the liner, but you need that tension on the left and right hooks. Then begin pushing the ridge of the rubber liner into the channel on the globe. You'll want to proceed in even, opposing directions to work the slack into place. If you think of it like a clock, start at the back center (12:00), then right and left sides (9:00, 3:00), then 10:30 and 1:30, 4:30 and 7:30, etc. Sometimes this can take a bit of readjusting, so don't worry if it takes a couple attempts :) Once the liner is in place, make sure it's still secured in the hooks at the left and right sides of the opening. Those tend to want to slip off while you are working. If you still have those foam strips from when you disassembled, adhere those where they came off at (you'll probably see sticky residue on the front left side of the globe). The foam strips are not required for the unit to function, but if you want new ones, let customer service know. Then you can reassemble the two halves of the globe. Just make sure those little foam strips are completely hidden by the upper globe flange. Once in place, if you can see the foam strips, reposition the foam and/or upper globe until no foam is visible. I hope these tips help!

I’m scared to death to spend the money on this thing. I really want to, but I’ve seen so many reviews from people who had to return it. Their cats didn’t use it because they were afraid of it either because of the noise when it rotated or whatever. Gosh, I’m not home a lot so this would be perfect. Any opinions from anyone who had this problem or a solution to it would be appreciated.
@Floppycats
@Floppycats 5 жыл бұрын
I understand the hesitation, but I am not sure I'd be scared to death. Worst case scenario is that it doesn't work out and you have to spend money on shipping to ship it back. But if your cats, in general, are curious and interested in new things, then they will probably be OK with it. From what I have learned in the last 3 years since I have had one of these things, most cats fail using it because of how the owner introduces it to them - turns it on right when it arrives in front of the cat (which is a BIG NO-NO). If you follow Litter-Robot's suggestions, however, it usually works out. If it doesn't you can always call Litter-Robot customer service and ask them for more tricks and tips. You might have noticed they have a deal going on right now for Mother's Day - bit.ly/3nvtZCo - that link will get the $70 off. Anyway, please let me know if you have any other specific questions - we have two now, and many readers and subscribers have them too.

Thanks for the video. Actually helped me not to buy it. Would be difficult for me to clean it since i live in a apartment and don't have access to an outside water source. I really wouldn't want to try to wash this in my tub.

@Floppycats 6 жыл бұрын
oh - you could just as easily wipe it down really well - you don't have to go to this length. and to answer your other question - i usually do it about every 6 months or so - just when it gets gross - so it would be subjective based on your cats. please let me know if you have other questions.
