A chinese guy who prices \ accesses vintage chinese teaware told me to use baking soda and a little water to make a paste and clean unglazed clay teapots with that. Then you can boil the pot for an hour to reset it, but put a cloth under and around the pot to protect it while boiling.

I actually put my glass gong dao bei in the dishwasher and it cleans it perfectly and no dish washer taste left especially if you rinse it in water. Dishwasher gets all the stains in all the knoocks and crannies!

I used dish soap meant for baby bottles to wash teaware since i find them to have very mild scent. I'll definitely try those sponges!

Its amazing you've kept a glass cha hai for ten years! I've been able to keep cups that long but I'm somehow breaking my pitchers once a year or so.

A good quality Cha hai makes all the difference I used to break them all the time, those $5-15 dollar ones you see every where then I got fed up and finally got a higher quality treated glass and it was worth the investment. Thanks for watching and sharing ☺️

Thanks for sharing your tips, it's always pleasant to watch you! I use a bamboo toothbrush for glass and porcelain, with 100° celsius water from the kettle at the end of my session. They come out shiny, odourless and without any scratch. Then I dry what does not evaporate with a cloth I use just for this purpose. It takes a couple of minutes and you are ready to go for a new tea...if you are not drunk enough :) I replace the toothbrush every few months. For Yixing and other clay teaware I do the same but I use a little piece of luffa. Just a little touch outside. It's fibrous but not scratchy, natural, inexpensive and last years. After cleaning the clay teapot and drying it with its cloth I leve it to dry without lid to avoid ant chance of dump smell building up. I imagine one could use the luffa also for glass and porcelain, but I find easier to get inside the pitcher with the toothbrush.

I aquired a lovely old Yixing teapot a few months ago, perfect aged patina. When I looked inside, there were a number of little round mildewy blooms!! I was devastated, because I heard somewhere that if this happens, you basically have a decorative ,unusable pot at that point. I refused to believe that, and indeed,I used baking soda. I didn’t think to use salt,as,like soap,I would have thought that would affect taste in future brewing. The first try, and, keep in mind I had no idea what I was doing, didn’t work completely,so a second slurry scrub seems to have done the trick. My novice efforts, however, because I kind of overdid it with the soda, pretty much removed the beautiful outer patina, that wonderful darkened thing that only hundreds of steepings can produce!😞 It shall re-gain that patina once more, and it will be MY steepings that will tell its story!!😊

Hi Charles, Yes this is the unfortunately consequence of cleaning an old tea pot is your gonna lose the beautiful Patina, but at least we can safe the tea pot from a milder disaster or if we every need to preseason or change the tea we use for it. I often used this technique with many old Yixing teapots, its the most natural way of cleaning them I have found. I hope it will rain a beautiful patina soon. :)

So do I understand correctly that a melamine sponge is basically a more effective version of a regular kitchen sponge? So you just use water without any detergent and the melamine sponge does the cleaning because of its dense fiber structure? I've never heard of these sponges before so I am kinda worried about using em for porcelain, glass and ceramic teaware I use for drinking.

Hi Mart, Thanks for watching and sharing. That is why Baking soda and salt is often preferred but you can also always use a very mild natural detergent and sponge to clean tea ware as well. I just wanted to share how I have cleaned tea ware over the years. But yes a Melamine sponge is like mild sand paper so I do not use them on any natural or clay tea ware.

@@JeffreyMcIntosh With sponges I am a little worried about glaze, like is it possible to "brush" through a glase with such a sponge? There's definitely a lack of information on this topic or I am just making it complicated in my head. In any case thank you for sharing your tips.
