How to Connect iRobot Roomba 890 WiFi to Roomba App and to the Cloud

Setting up the Wifi on the Roomba is not too difficult.
But on Christmas Day it was not obvious.
On Boxing Day it is a little easier.
The trick is to press Dock and Spot at once for two seconds.
Do not press the clean in the middle.
Put your two fingers straddling the clean button.

Great job with video 👍 NOTE: app is not working with older iPhones just for initial setup. I wasted 2 hours with iPhone 6s Used XR and setup worked as in this video. Then went back to iPhone 6s, it works from there to use the app and machine

It does not seem you have the latest update for the mapping. Were you able to do that because I am not able to receive update although I have everything complete and working like you do.

Not understanding your issue. Once wifi is up you simply get onto the iPhone or Android iRobot App. You check for a software update. The update is either available as you are out of date or it is not. If the update is available the app seems to schedule the update with the Roomba and the roomba will PULL the app from iRobot's server when it decides to. There is not a definite window to request an update. If you are not seeing updates then either you don't need updates or your internet connection is wonky. You need to have a decent DNS to resolve any internet names and if you have ad blocking installed on your wifi router or some type of screwy antivirus firewall on your wifi router then that may screw up the software update as the roomba tries to PULL the update down from iRoomba servers. If you are really concerned you need to use wireshark to get the IP address of the roomba update server and see if your roomba can access the irobot update server from your internet. I did not have to go thru any trouble. It just worked for me.

Thank you for your repsponse. I just bought the Roomba 980 yesterday and everything works but the cloud. The version it comes with is v1.6.4 and no matter what I do, I cannot get the update. When I click the request update button I get a "No internet connection. Please verify internet connectivity and try again." I am not sure if this has something to do with Verizon FIOS or IRobot because my iPhone is connected to my wife and it is the same wifi network the robot is connected to. I called and am waiting for the techs to call back in 24-48 hours because so far the representative was no help. I rebooted the robot and rest it many times. I googled the issue and there are others who had this problem.

Basic Troubleshooting 101. Baseline. OK so you can run the 980 from the app on your phone correct? So meaning - when you are connected to the irobot cloud and your Roomba is connected to your home wifi - you can execute a clean command from anywhere in the USA on the phone's connection? this is how it is supposed to work. So if you say your roomba is on your FIOS wifi try this. Put your phone onto the cellular network. Turn off the wifi on the phone. Then try a CLEAN command and it should start cleaning. Then do a return to base command. If those work - you should be able to then do a firmware update request from your phone. Again - try it with the phone NOT on your home wifi - but on the cellular network. Also you might want to check your home wifi box and see if the Roomba is showing up under the DHCP server. You should see the MAC address of the Roomba. If the little wifi signal light on the Roomba is white and lit you should be good to go. Looks like for Roomba 900 series your firmware is 2.2.11 which is the latest. There may be a problem going up so far from 1.64 or 1.6 to 2.2..x. Hard to say. Your FIOS wifi can't be blocking outbound connections. Here is the Roomba firewall maPFor optimum connectivity, please check your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or router manufacturer for assistance with checking firewall settings and ensuring the following ports are open. Internal Network Traffic UDP port 5353/5678 for discovery. TCP/HTTPS 443 for data traffic. TCP/MQTT 8883 for data traffic. Outbound Traffic to the Internet UDP/SNTP port 123 for time. TCP/HTTPS 443 (/80) for data traffic. TCP/MQTT 8883 for data traffic. Usually wifi does not block it. Ha.. I think I got it!! OK so you need to configure your FIOS or whatever internet you have to allow INTERNAL communications BETWEEN connected devices. I bet that is turned off for security.. All of you IP addresses in your house need to be able to talk to other IP addresses. On my dd-wrt router I can allow internal computer and devices to talk to each other or not. If your phone and roomba are on the INTERNAL network they may try to talk directly. So probably to solve your problem easily I would connect the cell phone to the cellular network only and turn off the wifi on the cell phone and try it out again. Or else you gotta log into your wifi router as admin and your password and struggle with the settings. Do that as a last resort unless you are a network guru.

. I appreciate all the time you took to answer my question. Believe it or not, I decided to reset my network to the default and start over on my iPhone and now I was able to get the update. I spent hours trying to figure this out today and will keep your information handy should I need it. Thanks for your replies

I try holding down both buttons but the wifi symbol dosent even pop up SOMEONE HELP ME

Do a full reset on the Roomba. Hold both buttons down for 12 seconds. If it HAS wifi then it will light up during the reset. If the Roomba does not have wifi then no light will occur. Make sure your wifi router is compatible. Make sure the "G" type of Wifi signal is activated on your Wifi router and not just the "N". Make sure "G" is on the 2.4 GHZ channel and not on the 5 GHZ channel. I don't think the Roomba works on 5GHZ. Only 2.4GHZ wifi. Hope this helps you.

@@moviestudioland Good video! I'm experiencing the same problem that Abishai describes, but I have a 690 model,which according to the features, it includes wifi. However the wifi light never appears. I have an open ticket with Support. Also tried with a reset and remove/install the battery again, but no change. If you have any additional idea, will be more than welcome! Thanks!

Make sure you are trying to connect to a 2.4G wifi signal and not a 5G wifi signal. You may need to setup your wifi to have two SSID names - like intenet2.4G and internet5G. Connect the Roomba to the 2.4G signal which has further range and lower frequency.

You might also try a reboot of the roomba. You hold down the center button for 12 seconds or more? I kinda forget now. Been a year.
