it's not, those are trash. If you think the video quality is better is just because it pulling out the rgb signal instead of composite which makes the image cleaner but the picture is still not interpreted correctly. In fact those cheap converters transform the progressive signal into interlace (your TV does the same thing when you plug in analog things in it) and it adds lag as well as graphial problems. If you really want to have a good experience for à fairly low budget check out videos on the GBS-C or the rad2X

I'm a bit of a video snob and have to say I've noticed nothing drastically different. I'm sure there are some they can find a sprite or color somewhere that has shifted a little, but as a whole I'd say it's fantastic.

You’re correct, none of the old systems output to HDMI. This cable, and the others we have, use the best signal available from the machine (in this case the RGB signal from the Genesis) and in the box on the cable, convert, upscale and output a 720p signal to HDMI. It will surprise you when you hook it up to an HDTV. However, if you have a CRT then using a Scart Cable to get the RGB signal, and a converter box (if you’re in the U.S.) to get Component Out would be the best option.

It should work just fine! Just plug the Genesis into one of the available ports on the Onkio and make sure you have an HDMI running form your TV to the Receiver.

Greetings King, one of the comments below mentioned that they saw an issue with the pin-connector shape. Look at the shorter adapter cable that plugs into the longer cable. See if the shape ( a "U" pattern vs. a "C" pattern ) lines up with the holes on the other cable. This may have been an old issue with the HDMI cables, I haven't seen any issue with the ones I currently sale. If you got it from Gametrog send me a message from the site and I'll help you out.

Do you have another HD TV you can try it on? These cables output 720p, not 1080. There are some TVS that don't support 720p so that's a possibility. Also, do you know if the SEGA works with regular (RCA) cables? A black screen could also be a dirty game, have you tried a couple different games? (I know, lots of options here).

@@thegametrog I’ve tried a couple diffeeent games, same issue and on two different Samsung smart tvs… I’m wondering if the resolution like you said is the issue… I do not know if it works with regular rca cables… I have Rca, but do I need a specific plug to use those? I have one other tv I’m going to try again on, thanks for the help regardless.

@@justinpeter7452 So most of the Genesis Models 1s that I have seen go bad, do have the blank black screen. When you turn it on there is a change to the black screen on the tv, like it sees it, but doesn't display anything. So it is a possibility of a bad SEGA. But they're normally tanks, so I would try everything. Even look inside the cartridge port on the unit to make sure there no paper or anything stuck in the cart port (had this happen more than once with due to the shipping material someone used). A lot of new TVs don't have the RCA (Red, White & Yellow) ports, but if one of yours does, that's all you need to try that method (and the cable of course). Also, have you plugged in the Hyperkin Cable with a USB? Are you getting a little blue light on the HDMI Box? And, you're welcome!

​@@thegametrogDoesn't work on PAL (white reset button). And the console itself requires a specific SEGA cable that converts to RGB. Tested with two screen. One that is from 2010 and one from 2020. Console work on TV from 2000 when using SEGA brand RGB adapter.

Ever since I've carried them (mid 2019) I've never encountered a problem with them, so if there was a problem, I assume it's fixed. That's an original Gen 1 in the video, and the cable fits perfectly, so the U shape may just appear that way with the angle I'm holding the cable. But as you can see in the video, it fits no problem.

@Gametrog alright. I recently got a Sega Genesis model 1, and when I plugged it it, it doesn't turn on. I think it may be the AC adapter. I tested it out, and sure enough, it was. Do you think the problem is the AC adapter, or is there another problem? And which adapter should I look into?

@@cmartin8093 It coulds also be the Power Port needs some solder on the inside. This is a common problem with the Genesis (more so with the Model 2 though). You can often test this by wiggling the power port where it plugs into the Genesis (you might see the light on the genesis pop on as you wiggle it).
