I made one of these about 10 years ago with the same fitting coming out of the wall and then a 90 degree angle coming straight up to the waterline where it split with a "T" horizontally across 1' in each direction along the waterline so that the sections barely sat above my normal waterline. Then drilled 230 - 5/64th" holes on each side in 3 rows. I set my Pentair intelliflow pump up at 1000 rpms and ran it overnight since the variable speed costs nearly nothing to run at that low rpm. The night air here in Houston is typically 81 degrees in the dead of summer but like clockwork our pool would cool to within 1 degree of the night temp by first sun. Worked well because 82 degrees is too cold for me to swim in but by about 2pm it was perfect at about 85. Our pool was VERY shallow at 3.5 to 4.5' deep though so it would heat up quickly at just 12,000 gallons. I like the fall-down design. I'll have to look at our new pool in the morning to see if we have any eyeballs that would allow this design. I do like the way they act as mini water return jets in the downward position as well. One thing with only having a small hole like that is when chemicals get out of balance we would often end up with calcium buildup in that pvc arm section. It was nice to have a little visual queue because our spray pattern would start to fade or go from 15' to a shorter throw distance. One consideration people should consider on a properly engineered pool is that if they plug up that return line it may cause back-pressure on their equipment if the rest of the returns cannot compensate for the plugged up lines. Basically...don't do all of them like this and think that is fine :)

i have an in-ground "sport" pool. 3 ft deep and each end and 5 1/2 ft deep in the middle. the water temp got to 96 degrees and was unusable. watched this video, bot some pvc pipe, caps and angle pieces. i just drilled 6 holes into each cap at upper angles. then i only run my pump at night from 10 pm to 7 am. within two days the pool temp dropped from 96 to 84. i can now maintain temps from 82-85 which seems to be the perfect temp to all who use the pool. one extra benefit is the sound and look of my "fountains". even the neighbor who lives behind me and spends some evenings entertaining has commented on how they enjoy the fountain sounds coming from my pool. this was sooo much better than spending $1600-$2000 plus installation for a pool chiller set up. thanks you for the video/advice.

We don’t have a programmable system just the basic Hayward sand filter with 1 on/off switch. I am in the process of building mine but want to make sure I can still use this. I’m assuming I will just have to push it down every morning???

Very cool! How hot does your pool actually get that you need to cool it down 10 degrees? Wowza! Also, do you notice any additional evaporation when doing this?

looking to use your system but when i take out the jet the male fitting is a freak size,,,home depot has no size that matches ,...its a size inbetween 1 1/2 - 2 ".....what size male threads did you use to connect the initila fitting to the jet port or how

I don't think the water is capturing coolness from the air. I think the warm water is giving off heat, and when it's in a spray you have increased the surface area exposed to the morning air. A little water also turns from liquid into water vapor which takes heat energy from the pool water. Did you check the pool temp before and after to see what the actual magnitude of the cooling effect is? I like the simplicity of the setup.

I tried this and even though I have a bigger pool pump, it doesn't build up enough pressure. Do you plug any of your other jets? It seems with mine that as soon as I put my hand over a jet there is no pressure there because the flow just takes the path of least resistance and goes to the other jets rather than building enough pressure to squirt out the slit in the cap. I think it would work if I capped at least a handful of the other jets in the pool but just curious if you had to do this?

Hi i will give you a marvellous idea: Get 20 pcs of mini irrigation nozzles and drill 20 holes in a pipe and fit them then connect the pipe to a 1/4 hp water pump. The evaporation effect is enormous. I can send you photos of mine The outside temperature is 56 celcius while the pool is 28 celcius

AZ the pool water is hot. My friend in Phoenix never used his pool because the water was hot.

noting the thread position only works on one side...not on the other side because the pipe drops down (unscrewing as it goes down until it hits the step.....the other side is tightening as it drops down...thus the need to mark the thread position)

My kids would break that off so fast
