Well I did it! I’m happy with results, not a perfect job but there is a learning curve right lol. Anyone planning to tackle this the one thing I would do differently is I would apply clear sealer with skid proof additive. A few weeks after I discovered a tiny bit of water dripping from a pipe and it’s created blemishes in floor ( very small so at this point I’m not clearing it out and fixing, yet). Lastly make sure you’re keeping your coating consistent , at the end I had a lot of product left so I began putting it on heavier and you can see the unevenness. But again this is a great video, good product would 100% recommended and may use it on my screen porch someday.
@Rekkless
@Rekkless 4 жыл бұрын
I used the same product last summer, and couldn't be happier with the results. One word of advice: Get the clear coat!! It makes all the world of difference, it makes the floor much more durable. gives it a great gloss and leaves the floor looking professional instead of DIY.

Really helpful for use of Rust-Oleum epoxy shield. One of the best videos about that. I applied ours a couple of days after watching this. It is a ton of prep work for sure. But it looks great and hopefully will last a few years. I had considered the professional version that Rust-Oleum makes but for the work that I do in the garage I decided against the professional, solvent based product. Plus the basic epoxy shield has been sold for at least 20 years, I would guess. I am going to use parking mats under our car and truck tires though just in case. I don't want to risk hot tire peel after all this work. Thanks again for your video. The most helpful one for my project!

This video shows that the performance of these coating are all in the prep. Honestly the kit used is an inferior kit but the fact it has held up for at least a year tells you the prep was done well. I used a Armor Garage kit with the mil spec top clear coat which costs at least 3 times as much as this kit. The clear coat adds a glossy finish to it but it still anti skid with the additive. My floor has been coated for 8 years now and no peeling. Prep process was similar to what was shown here and total tile from prep to cars back in was a week. Good job on the DIY

Whenever you're removing an existing coating, you are much better served to rent the coating removal tool vs the dimabrush prep tool @ Home Depot. The removal tool has only 10 blades, which is more than 1/2 the metal grinders than the prep tool & does a much more aggressive job removing the existing coating as well as prepping the concrete slab simultaneously.

Don't do this yourself. My business is nothing but correcting what homeowners wasted their time on less than a year ago. Home depot kits are garbage. You have to buy high quality epoxy and get fast set I can do a garage in one single day and drive on it the next. The guy didn't prep it right. Prep is always key without that right nothing will stick. You must grind for the proper profile so epoxy has some bite on it. My opinion dont waste your money or time now. You will be disappointed. Don't have the money for a pro then save up and get it done right the first time. My coatings won't fail until the house is gone if taken care of. Reach out if you wanna know more

Wow you did a ton of prep work prob the most I’ve seen in any video I watched. You grinded, power washed multiple times, used a cleaner and etcher AND an acid mix wow lol. I was surprised after you did all that you didn’t do a double coat or a sealer. I also think it’s better when you use more flakes to where it’s basically covering the whole floor, looks really cool that way. Great job though for your first time hope it holds up for a long time 👍

Hey man great vid, planning to do the same on my garage this weekend, one question about yours though what is the total square footage of your garage? mine is 400 square feet and x1 package of this product should be enough. Me concern is that I have seen other people recommend doubling up on the rust-oleum packages on two car garages since its not enough.

Looks nice. But really should be done with a diamond grinder to get the correct csp for the epoxy to adhere to. That way it won’t delaminate over time. Have to grind the edges with an angle hand grinder. Acid wash and sand isn’t enough for prep and prep is most important for the longest lasting results. End result should be more like a glass than a paint. That being said it did come out nice. Stay safe!!!

Glad to see you used water to keep the dust down. The pros here grind the cement with 80 grit diamonds and no water.

Came out great man! Just started following your channel after watching your dream 2 car garage build. I’m in the process of moving but once I get my keys I plan on starting my process too! Quick question, did you have any issues with the cracks on the cement? Did they show up after epoxy was dry? I’ve read that they recommend to fix them first but wanted to get different opinions. Thanks in advance!

Thanks Edwin! I actually left the cracks as they were it didn't bother me as much and so far the floor is holding great!! Hasn't cracked at all! If you have the time fix any cracks I mean why not it will look better! They sell a kit for that too!
