I recently was gifted my first coverstitch machine and I just wanted to thank you for these videos, you have a wonderful straight forward way of teaching. You know when to speed things up and when to slow down and show some little trick. Thank you!

Haha, I know the videos are for very few people, but I'm not obsessed with popularity and it makes me happy when someone (even if it's just one person) finds the tutorials useful 😉 My fingers are safe, my machines are far smarter than me 🤣🤣🤣 thank you for watching Kerstin (btw, you can actually get an attachment like that for a straight stitch machine, though it's a bit tricky to attach) x

Great video! Very inspirational. I just bought a new coverstitch machine and am not finding a lot of information for how to do flat construction, as in industry. So this was very helpful!

Great vlog Alex! I bought a binding attachment for my overlocker and tried in a.couple of times but didn’t really get a great result! I will defo give it another go now I’ve seen this. It really does make the garments look more professional 👍😘

It does give a nice finish and I still prefer a self band to ribbing, on the whole. My biggest concern is the finishing and you, of course, seem to have it sorted 😂
@GingerheadCo
@GingerheadCo 4 жыл бұрын
I prefer the ribbing, too, but it's a requested video (especially the construction with this sort of binding seems to puzzle people 😉 and as I'm on a industrial sewing course, I happen to know stuff like this 🤣🤣🤣) But I will not stop my ribbing addiction anytime soon 🤣🤣🤣

Gingerhead & Co I really like all your makes with the ribbing, but my own preference is, generally,for a self fabric band. I am just wondering if I might need an attachment, or not 🤔🤫

If you're happy with your neckbands you might not need anything else (I don't use binders for neckline/armholes finishing that often, though I do use it for some other things 😉)

I just got myself a CV 3550 with the binding attachment. I wonder: this binding, is not cut on the bias? Because of it’s a knit? Am I right?
@billiebeads
@billiebeads Жыл бұрын
All of the binders linked are not available. I have a Baby Lock Evolution, which does a coverstitch. I see that the Ovation model has a double fold bias attachment, but it does not work on the Evolution, which is an older machine with a more narrow bed. Your video and the linked attachment make me think that I should be able to get a generic industrial binder to use on my Evolution. Do you know of any other models that are like the one you use and considered generic? Can I assume that any of the industrial generic binding attachments that have a slot for the screws to hold it onto the bed of my machine should work? Your video is wonderful and answered my exact questions about what to do when applying in the flat method. Thank you so much for sharing. I intend to check out your other videos.

You make this look so easy! Would the process be the same for a single fold binding attachment? I have the Juli MCS1800. I am so glad I found you as your videos and explanations are so clear. Being new to my Coverstitch machine I have really appreciated all your videos.

Great finish but I’m in awe of your array of machines. Is the serger really so quiet or did you turn the sound low?
@GingerheadCo
@GingerheadCo 4 жыл бұрын
It's definitely far quieter than any of the domestic ones I've ever had (or heard) 😊😊😊 I didn't change the sound in the video, but I think the 'background' is quieter when I speak 😀

Thank you Claire ♥️ it's double fold binder -it's an attachment, Janome makes them, too, they might have a rake at the end to make the tape slide more evenly. I'm using 36mil here (outlet) but they come in various sizes. I'll make another video about generic ones (and some general tips) because I get lots of questions about them x

Thank you for all the work you put into making videos full of helpful information. Do you find the babylock coverstitch better or similar to the jukie in handling and stitch formation.
@GingerheadCo
@GingerheadCo 4 жыл бұрын
I actually prefer the juki for most of my coverstitching (the stitch is consistent on all fabric and there's no skipped stitches over thick seams) though both machines are amazing - I have never had any issues apart from my own errors. The babylock is better if you want to use various binders (they have quite a few and they are excellent quality, though theyvare not cheap) so the installation takes seconds. Both machines are reliable, both have a slight learning curve (and I guess the problems might occur there - as with all machines, the better we know them, the easier it is to use them). The babylock needs compensation over thick seams (I use my coverstitch machines on jeans and thick wool as well), which is not a problem, but I need to slow down there. It's also louder. Juki, apart from the lack of accessories, is more difficult to thread (though I actually think it's super easy 😀 ) and if not threaded properly won't work well. But I love the smooth work and I use it as my main coverstitch. The babylock is the only brand that makes combo machines with the ability to use both overlocker and coverstitch functions in combination, which is why I got it (I use it a lot as a 5 thread overlocker and for decorating various projects) I love them both and I could definitely recommend either - but everyone likes something else, so it's always best to test the machine that you want to buy.

Working on knits. Successful using the double fold binder on my cover stitch machine but now I am having a really tough time getting all those layers to go thru my overlock machine at the seams. It seems to bunch up or not feed thru smoothly. (I don’t have an industrial cover stitch machine like your Juki.) What would you suggest I try? Becky

OMG it’s so neat, and you make it look so easy? is your binding just the same fabric or something special that you bought?
@GingerheadCo
@GingerheadCo 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you 😊 it takes a bit of practice but it actually is easy (though my first attempts weren't perfect- I'm going to make another video at some point with some little tips because I've had quite a few questions) The tape is just stripes of fabric cut along the biggest stretch (usually selvage to selvage, but not always). I make my own, but you can buy it pre-cut 😊

Hi I'm Lorena, thank you for your nice videos, you inspired me👏I'm trying to understand which coverstich should I buy...I own a Juki serger654 and I love it!! I have a janome sewing machine and I saved money thinking to buy a new sewing machine but I'm really interesting in a coverstich now! I'm sewing baby clothes for my small Etsy business...help me please, which coverstich can you raccomand me?🙏🥰
@GingerheadCo
@GingerheadCo 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lorena, choosing the perfect coverstitch for your needs is very personal. Decide how much you want to spend and how much you're going to use it (if you use it for your business, maybe it would be a good idea to look into industrial options, they can work for hours every day with no issues) We all like something else, I like my Juki and Babylock coverstitch machines a lot, but there's no machine that is perfect for everyone 😊 always try before you buy - and if possible take a class at your dealership on how to start coverstitching on the model you buy. Good luck with your coverstitching journey xxx

This looks really great! Do you have to worry about stretching the binding slightly as it feeds through? To reduce gaping?
@GingerheadCo
@GingerheadCo 3 жыл бұрын
It just needs to be taut (not slack) and positioning the stand a bit higher - above the presser foot level would sort it out. This type of binding is not suitable for any opening that needs to be gathered, I'd only use it for openings with less than 10% ease for the band (so, this binding works best for boat neck type of necklines and so on)
