Yay ♥️ you can have a go and see how it goes - the binders can be expensive so it's a really good gift! Practice on scraps first because it takes a few times to find the best position for your binder, but every time gets easier 😁 it's good to have all the extras 😁 skills as well as the tools 😊 have fun 😊x

What a great video - thank you! I have the MCS-1500 like you show in the middle of the video, and you even showed attaching the plate first... I don't think you can get the original bernette binder but the one from Sweden with an adapter plate will work (you can buy both the plate and various binders there, Erikassyskrin.se, I have them and they are great quality - like my babylock ones, not like my industrial ones) It takes a bit of practice but once you find your "sweet spot" it's easy 😊

Brilliant Alex! Thank you so much! I have been struggling with the binder attachment and it has been down to placement - one of your common errors 🤣🤣! When I played around with it, I got it right. Do you have any tips for marking the correct placement for future projects or is it a case that every project needs a different position? P.s. I am going to make the dogs some coats this week and I may well use the binder attachment ! I will of course be referring to your awesome tutorial 😘😘
@GingerheadCo
@GingerheadCo 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Lynne 😊 I have actually marked the placement on one of the binders (one of the ones with a rake, you can just see it when I talk about them. Looks like a pair of boobs 🤣) and it made finding the right spot easier (though it is not 100% precise because you can push the binder to the front or back on the same screw position and the placement will be changed) Don't mark anything on the machine, even if you don't need a plate, you'll have to use the same screw holes, so no point marking anything there 😉 and after a few sessions you'll actually stop needing any markers, our brains are pretty amazing 😁 x

Thank you very much for this video, it was very hard to find any information on using a binder at a Juki MSC-1500. Just a few questions; you have a Juki and a Babylock? Do you use them for different purposes? Which one do you find the easiest to work with?
@GingerheadCo
@GingerheadCo 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you 😊 I have both (and an industrial Juki), I love both but I actually prefer the Juki, my babylock is a bit more fussy, when I go over the seams I have to slow down or use compensation on thicker fabric. But babylock has all the binders (to be bought separately and they are expensive, but they are good and fit perfectly ) The Juki takes longer to "master" (you really have to thread it correctly) but I don't mind that. I really love the little Juki, it has coverstitched perfectly various projects with no fuss and the stitch was always beautiful. I would always recommend trying before you buy because no machine is perfect for everyone 😉

@GingerheadCo

There’s another video with a simple method of closing bound seams on necklines and armholes (it’s in the same playlist but I think I worked on the baby lock there) I tend to use the industrial method (so sewing flat then closing seams) but you can do it in the round by cutting the end of the binding at an angle, stopping a couple of inches before your beginning and folding the binding edges under (by hand or rather: using an awl ) and going over that with the coverstitch slowly, you might need to use the hand wheel to do it. I don’t have a video with this method (I find it very fiddly and I don’t actually think it looks better, but some people do, so you can try and see what you prefer) but it’s how quilts are finished so there’s lots of videos showing it, but on a regular sewing machine.

Thank you for the video. You mentioned using wooly nylon, do we use it for upper or lower loop? Also, can you demo how to use single fold on a double fold binder? Thanks so much
@GingerheadCo
@GingerheadCo 3 жыл бұрын
The woolly nylon should be used in the looper (there's only 1 looper in coverstitch machines) and if there's any pulling or skipped stitches the looper tension should be lowered (in some cases you can skip one threading step, the pigtails just before threading the finger - but I have never needed that) You can, in theory, use woolly nylon in needles, too, but domestic coverstitch machines tend to play up when they are all threaded with stretchy thread - but you can try if you want. You need bigger size needle as woolly nylon is bulky (but looper is enough to make the seam soft) 😊

Hi Alex, i was using the binder today on the triumph and i have a really hard time. It keeps slipping off the left and eventually went off the the garment. I then try without any garment (no neckline, armhole or anything) and it's still going to the left eventually. Do you know why that is? Thanks
@GingerheadCo
@GingerheadCo 3 жыл бұрын
The binder needs to be in the perfect position (you can mark where the screws are when you find it, I use black felt pen) and it can be a bit fiddly at first. Try moving the screws by fraction of an inch (or a millimetre 😉) till you find what works. It gets easier every next time x

Hi Sheryll, I would definitely buy the same machine again (or an industrial Juki coverstitch if I had enough room 😊) but everyone likes something different, so try before you buy 😊 the small harp space doesn't bother me much, my machine has no problem sewing jeans (3 layers) or sports lycra. There's always some learning curve with every machine but I have never had a problem (unless it was my fault 😉 threading is the best example) 😊

Please can I have some help. I bought a machine advertised as industrial coverstitch but its not. These store bought ones have huge feet making it impossible to bind a very tiny narrow turning points for envelope onesie (or baby bodysuit newborn or 0-3mth) to manoeuvre such huge dips and turns without stretching the fabric or lifting the foot causing skipped stitches. Can these machines do it? I have invested my last cent and cant afford anything else. I refuse to zigzag it, it’s disgusting unprofessional and just plain ugly. I want a coverstitch finish. Please offer some advice.

Can you tell me the settings you use on the juki please for the binder please?left and centre needle to wide needle settings? needles on 4.5? and stitch length 3.5/4? Thanks in advance.
@GingerheadCo
@GingerheadCo 3 жыл бұрын
Needle (or looper) tension doesn't depend on whether you use binders (and generally you don't need to play with it too much) I generally tend to use longer stitch (unless I need shorter one for thin fabric or lace) so my stitch length tends to be 3.5 to 4. If you use binders for anything above very light weight (remembering that it's a few layers because of the binder) you shouldn't have high tension (so, kind of 3 or 3.5 , maybe up to 4) tou might need to lower the looper tension to L on very heavy fabric and maybe turn the pressure foot presser knob a bit up. But this machine needs very few adjustments (differential feed is probably more useful- but that depends on what results you are getting) Hope that helps (if you have big issues it's unlikely to be the tension)
