Ask them if they have vertical eyes. Then ask them if they noticed the entire world matches their horizontal eyes.

Have you checked out our blog post? we explain the best resolution for each platform. As for other settings we recommend exporting H.264 with bittrate of around 15. Play around with bittrate / file size balance until you find what works best for you.

Georgi Yankov good idea! I’ll have make a video around that. I’m almost done editing a video for an interior designer. Perhaps I’ll break down the editing process in a more thorough video. I do use some sound design in my wedding videos.

However I have more and more requests for promo videos, interviews and product videos where I am trying to edit in a better and more interesting style. @@artlist_io yeah! How to figure out and plan for using SFX in your video. Sound design can be so great but you can also overkill it by adding too much. It would be great to have a video to show how to select the different parts of your video that could be enhanced with SFX without overdoing it or without draining the story with too much SFX

This is super helpful. Now I think I need to just buy a second DSLR and film sideways so I just have vertical footage and use my regular camera for the 16:9.

There is a simple trick, just add different music to the finished video and then choose the one that most people like :-) I am currently making a video on this topic for my KZfaq channel

after enjoying normal horizontal videos, i don't think i could ever change that. i actually don't watch most shorts for this reason. i mostly don't bother, with rare exception.. then if i like the content, i mostly think, what a shame it was recorded the wrong way. but if it's done both ways, then a choice makes it better. but i don't think they should become vertical only as many will view them as the cheap or lame 'tiktok' or 'phone' versions. and for good reason

I think shooting vertical with my c300 and cine lens would be a bitch to rig. My DSLR setup seems like a no brainer though. I wonder what big production companies are using to rig their setups for vertical. For example, Tinder created a whole mini-series of choose your own adventure videos that had a very high production value, not shot on a DSLR. I suppose they could have shot 6K or 8K and then crop. But 4K is not enough. New challenges!

Heavier cameras are definitely harder to rig, but it's possible. If you want that production value then that's they way to go

Vertical videos is opening new business opportunities for us creatives. I think we wasted soo much time trying horizontal videos to look great on a phone, then someone invented TikTok and Reels, which changed the video experience (on a phone) for ever

2:30 it is my opinion that vertical video hurts (not only) story telling (at all times). Some will say that this only pushes you to be more creative and it can only make you better at the craft bla bla bla... I agree to a certain degree. But it's sad to see creators having to conform to a new standard, set by the least appealing way of experiencing movies/videos and presented on such dare I say anti-artistic and (to society) detrimental platforms as facebook and instagram, or better yet the online sewage called tik tok.

me too, we all love that cinematic ultra wide horizontal shoot (with anamorphic lens if possible), however market needs vertical and that is where the money is going

Goes against natural eyesight: vertical formats operate counter to how our vision works. We perceive the world in “portrait mode”, which can throw off viewers and create negative associations with a video. Change your ways you charlatan. -kidding. I cannot think of one instance where portrait video is better than landscape video.
