*How to have a North Star*: - ask “where do I want to be 10 years from now?” in both personal and work dimensions - have an important support system - get to know yourself more: * inputs: listen, read, talk, experiment * reflection: turn stimulus down and look inwards. Meditation, journaling, time alone. Take time to piece things together. “What did you do as a little kid before you applied pressure/expectations” “what can I NOT live without?” - honour the KID IN YOU Hope this helps anyone :)

This is so deep. I lost myself in middle school trying to fit in with others around me. Now at 23 I'm still trying to find that creative girl that I once used to be. You can become discouraged when all you have around you are lost and low self-esteem people. You have to have strength to push pass the limit others put on you. It's saddening, but it took me watching this video to realize to what extent I've lost myself and why I want to find it again. 😢

I feel you, (I'm 23 too) I've been feeling so lost, and it seems that the further I go the more I loose myself, like if I was underwater trying to go to the surface but I keep drowning, it's even harder when you don't have any hope on you, you just feel numb; the only thing that I've learned it's to be kind to myself and stop thinking in who I used to be, because that hurts me more than anything, remembering the things that I used to do, to think and feel, I stopped trying to find that past self that I lost a time ago, because I'm not her anymore and instead I'm trying to understand the direction that I'm taking, I'm trying to be.

blumen well said... Better to be alone than to be in bad company is something I strive to live by. The moment I notice someone is a bit too toxic for me to handle, I cut them out. It’s so important to get good at this while we’re young because old habits die hard.

The good news is...23 is young. This is exactly what this part of your life is for. The mistake I made at your age (I’m 33) is that I had no intention or direction at that age. I’m getting a late start, but I AM starting. Keep attacking your journey with intention. Be mindful. Be present. You’ve got this.
@ird4489

I am almost in that age. I am 22 y.o now and feeling so lost. Every single thing scares me and I somehow tired of surrounded by people. While it is true that 22 or 23 is young, some societies already see it as a failure because you lost and your peers mostly not lost in that age so, it is very depresing. This guy gives an insight toward what should I do though so, thanks for sharing.

I RD think about which belief serves you in your current culture and go with that one... if you believe that a 22 year old with a child’s mentality is a failure, you’re only hurting yourself. Insult to injury so to speak.

TL DR SUMMARY -"Design : do or plan something with a specific purpose or action in mind." We should design our own lifestyle, focusing on what matters to us. -Lifestyle design is a messy process, our priorities and dreams change constantly. We're learning as we go. -Ask "where do I want to be in 10 years, personally and professionally?" Tools to know yourself better : -Input : learning, opening new doors, experimenting. -Reflection : Meditation, journalling, connect dots together. -Ask :"What can I not live without?" (Expressing myself? Traveling?) -It's not an easy process, so treating things like experiments or games help to reduce the pressure of it.

Thank you for this video, Nathaniel. I think I find myself going through cycles. Like one day it strikes me and I know what to do, then weeks pass and all of a sudden I'm not inspired or happy or willing to do that anymore. I think I needed to hear about the process of finding north stars because it made a lot of sense to me and it also made me feel less anxious about the future. Thank you so so so much, your search for mental clarity is super inspiring. Greetings from Mexico!

This has been on my mind lately and I agree with the point you made about it not being possible to learn everything from others. Experimenting is soo crucial and will get anyone far in their journey. When I’m in doubt with where I wanna go, that’s one thing I constantly remind myself of. To just keep experimenting and see what feels right, and I definitely have come a long way in terms of knowing what I want and where I want to be. Awesome video as always!

I just woke up at 4:45 in the morning, and instead of the regular audiobook I listen to, I took your video. I woke up feeling a bit lost today, and your video just managed to help me out. Thank you! On another topic, don't miss the audiobook "The Highly Sensitive Person" by Elaine N. Aron. As an HSP myself, I found a lot of useful information there. Give it at least 35% into the book to get past the explanations and to some more practical/usable information. As always, great content Nathan! Thank you!

Thank you for this Nathaniel, I currently just got approved for my first apartment on my own and it feels unreal. When you mentioned your school trip to Spain I saw myself in that I always loved to travel and see the world. The part of your story that hit closest to home was the part where you channeled your childhood to clue into your passions. If I'm being honest it made me tear up. For a while I forgot what a young me would do or think. I remember the things that girl in me loves to do. Amazing clue to reach to my North Star. Keep up the storytelling, you are truly great at it.

I have been searching for so long for fulfilling relationships. Me falling ill for 5 years did not help. I feel like all the good men are taken and i missed the deadline. .... And this video is amazing in every way. Designing my life has been on my mind a lot lately. I am actually a designer, so... :)

I'm someone that is addicted to beating myself down, I get to points where I'm happy and feel as if I have everything figured out, thoughts are clear, confident, life feels easier then bam one day everything goes down and then the obsession of beating myself down comes back and it's as if I forgot every tool, like someone training for a fight for months then during the fight completely forget how to defend. Also I'm a really good cheerleader, my priority is all messed up, it's as if I care for others more than myself its affected my negatively.

I relate so deeply on so many parts you mention, but especially the strive to connect with my childhood self because I know that I was born with the essence I was meant to have in order to carry myself through this lifetime that I'm on. People say I have an affinity for languages but I tell them that languages is as easy as learning a commercial jingle if you just let it be and that it is hard because they don't approach with a childlike wonder and curiosity - which I do since I connected with my childlike self. Love your storytelling style, very nice. :)

Your videos are like meditations to me. I always leave so calm and inspired. This one reminded me of how I'm not alone in not knowing what I'm doing as well as how I'm limiting myself in shaking off "crazy" ideas like living in different countries and pursuing dance and athletic activities, and there's probably more that I'm blocking out..

I'm coming back to this video after two years. Two years ago I made notes and since then my goals have changed but I also managed to achieve the main goal I had at that time - to start online work and become a digital nomad. I moved to another country and I travelled a lot which I also wanted to do! I think it's a great success especially when you count pandemic in between. I really recommend all of you to take notes and come back to them after some time. It really shows you how far you've come.

I really like what you said about treating everything as small experiments. There's a lot of pressure to have life figured out. You know, fear can be paralyzing if you let it consume you. I learned to focus on what is in my control in every present moment. Doing my best always and deciding from a place of love, positivity and joy instead of fear. It's truly not a one-time deal. Everything and everyone is continually evolving. I'm with you, in spirit, my friend, in our search of mental clarity.

the '' treating the things you do like little games'' advise is so good. I found myself putting unnesessary presure on thing just because in my head i was like "maybe this is my passion and i should be good at it" and now since i started having that playful mindset i tend to enjoy my hobbies a lot more. The truth is that our inner child is always influencing us in some way and i think by putting preasureon things makes that inner child quiet o repressed. Thank you nathaniel for being such a positive force.
