How to Crochet Shoes for Baby (SUPER CUTE and EASY Mary Jane Booties)

Hi everyone! If you would like to learn how to crochet shoes for baby, in this case super cute Mary Jane baby booties in SIZE 0 - 3 MONTHS, I have a great crochet tutorial for you!

These crochet baby shoes are really easy to make. Plus they’re a quick crochet project as they can be made up in one evening or in a couple of hours if you’re an experienced crocheter.

For the yarn I used a category 3, lightweight, double knit (DK) yarn. I used Paintbox Yarns Baby DK, which is so soft, but you can substitute with any other yarn from the same category.
In this tutorial I will also show you how to make the little rose and mini leaf. These embellishments add a lovely finishing touch to your baby booties.
The finished length of these crochet baby shoes is 3.5 inches (9cm) approximately.
This is a beginner-friendly crochet tutorial and as long as you know how to work the following stitches, you will have no problem in making up these adorable little shoes:
dc - double crochet
dc2tog - double crochet two together
hdc - half double crochet
sc - single crochet
sl st - slip stitch
BPdc - back post double crochet

I appreciate how you take the time to show exactly where to put your stitches. I've tried to follow a lot of tutorials to make baby shoes for my new grandchild and give up because they go so fast and I have to keep backing up to see what they are doing. I am more a visual learner so the way you show each step is so helpful. Maybe now I can get the shoes made to go with the other things I made. Thank you! Hello! Thank you for the tutorial, very cute shoes! I have watched it many times the last days while crocheting along. 😀 I find it very hard to get them to look alike, I have accually made 5 single booties now in total, and they all look different. Noticed after making bootie nr 2 that you had turned it inside out without saying anything and I did not notice this when making the first shoe, so I had to remake it. Every time I watch the video I see new things and have to remake again😭 It is not easy to learn something new😅 Now I am going to remake for the last time before giving up, wish me luck 🙏

I like that you don't work too fast! I could follow you easily. Only thing is, can you clearly show which part of the stitch you put the hook in. I struggle with seeing that some time. Front, back loop, under both front and back. I struggled a little at times especially with the leaf!!. I know it can make a difference. Your video is MUCH clearer than most TYTY. I ripped out 2 other styles with other instructors as I could not see what they were doing and they moved too fast! I made these for my soon to be granddaughter! They came out a little bigger than I thought but it may have been the yarn or my rusty skills! ADORABLE bootie shoes!! Thank you for the instructions!!

You're very welcome, I'm so glad that you enjoyed the tutorial and found it easy to follow! 🥰 Here's the free written pattern for these baby shoes: maisieandruth.com/crochet-baby-booties-pattern-the-gracie-baby-bootie/ If you scroll down to the 'Gauge' section it tells you how long your shoe should measure after round 2. If it's way off, then you can adjust your hook size up or down. Also, if the tutorial calls for you to work through the FLO (front loop only) or BLO (back loop only) I'll indicate this in the video. If this is not specified then you'll insert your hook under both loops as is normally the case. Hope this helps! And congratulations on the news of your soon-to-be granddaughter! I'm sure she'll look utterly adorable in them! 💝

Thank you so much for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed it! 🥰 I haven't adapted the pattern for other sizes, but for 6-12 months you could try using a H (5mm hook). Or use a thicker worsted (aran) yarn and a G (4mm hook). After round 2, the sole should measure about 4.25 inches (11 cm) for this age. Hope this helps! 💞
