How To Crush The Short Forehand (Tennis Technique Explained)
1. Move quickly to the side of the ball preparing the racket early
2. Use an open stance and hit the ball around shoulder level
3. Stay farther away from the ball than you normally do
4. Set the racket high, knees bent, non-hitting arm across
5. Explode up as you rotate your body
6. Drop the racket down to just a little below contact and swing up and through the ball
7. Try hitting behind your opponent if they’re moving toward the middle of the court

Great video. I have also noticed the way of approaching the ball by Cilic. The run starts with legs crossing over, which is a thing we amateurs miss 99% of times. Keep up the great work!

Very inspiring video. I've never tried a hit like this, even when I was given the opportunity to do so (high and weak opponent's return), just because I didn't know the mechanics for this hit's execution. I use to leave the ball fall low and then hit a regular topspin forehand. I have still a question though: In the case of this hit, is a specific grip recommended in order to achieve it? Most of the hits of this type I've seen, especially by pros, are mostly powerful, flat hits with very little or even zero topspin (I guess that's because the contact point is high above the shoulder or at the height of the shoulder). So I guess a continental grip (instead of eastern or semi-western) could be ideal. What's your opinion on this? I ask because you don't mention anything about the grip in the video. Thanks again for the valuable tips through your videos. You put up an amazing work with your channel!

Thanks for the upload. The pros make killing the short ball look so easy. In a match situation that shot Marin did is very hard to pull off. You have to do so many things correctly, especially prepare super early. For those intermediate level players, don’t be surprised if you can’t crush the ball like that. Most of us will let it drop more and play a shot where the point stays live. I say this because I use to get on court thinking I could pull shots like this off, only to make an error. I’ve been getting weekly lessons and have learnt that so many basic foundations are needed before being able to do a shot like this in rhythm. Before then, be content to play a different shot. :-)

nicely said, Im an intermediate and would only try to crush the ball if it was very close to the net and bounced very high so I had plenty of time to get there and set up
@rsan1704
@rsan1704 3 жыл бұрын
@@MR-eh5mk Also, Marin's weight is going backward on the previous shot which also takes his time away for the short ball. the sequence Marin pulled off is harder than it looks.

I love seeing Djokovic lose points. Thanks for the video. I also need help putting away short balls. Too many times in matches I get a short ball and either overhit, or return a softball only to continue the point. Short balls are supposed to be easy winners. Missing short balls can be so frustrating.
@rsan1704
@rsan1704 3 жыл бұрын
I suppose it depends on exactly the type of short ball you are facing. I caution people trying to put away a ball like the one in the video. I don't think it is an 'easy winner'. for most of us, myself included, I let the ball drop and hit it as an approach shot. even Marin himself didn't get to it super early, otherwise, as the video suggested he would have hit it on the full.
