How To Custom Paint: Crystal EFX, part 1

In the first video of this series, I am showing a few custom painting tricks that Ive learned over the years, beginning with Crystal EFX
this is a demo panel. read your product TDS's for specific applications
Tricks for those who are just starting out and wanting to learn something cool that they can do. Painting is fun and I wish I knew some of these when I first got going. Many of us have lost that feeling of learning new tricks like we used to when we were first starting out and being able to build on those skills.
Obviously, spraying clear with a paint gun is ideal and will give more build and thus flatter results on final product. The aerosol doesnt create nearly the overspray that a gun does and this is a demo piece.

Good technique with the clear coat..working from a distance and then towards you. Never thought of that before so now it's will try it and see if I have better results and no runs.

DEF fluid, poke it, let it dry. It etches the paint. Wash then spray black and wipe off. Clear. Done

I tried the fx crystalizer 7 times with poor success but they told me to soak a rag and wipe it on. Now i used Dna mutant crystals once few years back and dna mutant crystals was super easy and had great success with it and their crystals look way better

I'm doing a follow up next week on this. Technically, the right way is to clear your base or bury it in an intercoat. Then do the crystal effect over that. In part 2, ill be doing that, as well as using an updated crystal solution to make much larger crystals

ALSA corp was the Bees knees..... You can manipulate the directional flow of the crystals by creating a path for things to follow via use of waters/non harsh chemicals & the spray technique used for application by depositing heavier or lighter effx in certain areas.........

Always wait until the ground coat is dry. Then go to next step

That looks awesome, I always love the crystal effect under candy! One question though, what is the dry time on the black paint before you knock it off? I've watched many videos on how to do crystal effects and nobody includes that in their tutorial.

It's just like any other basecoat. Once it's flashed and can sand on it, it's good. I typically let stuff sit 20-30 minutes to be safe
