It’s been a long time since I shot you some thanks and it’s long overdue Buckin. I started coming to your channel here 2 or 3 years ago as a way to build my knowledge of sawmanship and axe restoration but I have to thank you because I’ve stayed for so many reasons from the music to seeing you interact with your family and friends and for the kindness too. I must say I’ve never seen anyone run a chainsaw remind me more of my dad when he used to run saw a lot. He fought forest fire in the late 80s and ran a 288xp but the manner with which he handles the throttle and the hand file i see a lot here so thanks for bringing me back to my childhood! Have a great weekend Buckin and I hope everyone is doing well out there!

Buckin, I have owned a Husqvarna 142 for 15+ years. Always just using it to cut up dropped limbs and paying to have my chains sharpened. Been watching your channel for a good bit and felled my first tree today. Wasn't a monster, but when it hit the ground it was a rush. Landed right where I wanted. I knew exactly what to do from watching your work. Felt like you were right there with me. Will also never pay someone to sharpen a chain again! Thanks for teaching the art and joy of a power saw.

You could not be any more right. I try and impress upon our kids to Find Work. Find something to do, without having to be told. As I worked in public service for over 20 years in a team environment, “finding work” is huge and immediately noticeable. It’s also immediately noticeable as who are the ones with hands in their pockets! Both stand out and it’s a hard reputation to get past if you’re always standing around playing pocket pool when others are working!!

Nice to hear someone else that doesn't yammer about needing a certain premix. My personal mix is 45:1 NON ETHANOL! (if you can get it) fuel and I use Husqvarna xp+ oil. Same mix I use in all 2 stroke engines. One thing alot of people don't realize is the more oil in your mix the less actual gas there is and the saw will run leaner and hotter.

Everything you do Billy is so well done and neat and tidy!…I found packing wood so time consuming, so what I started doing was I built some wood boxes out of old pallets that hold a little less than a half a cord of wood and I have a tractor with a set of pallet forks that I can move them around the yard with and into my garage where my wood stove is and then I only handle the wood once…cheers Billy!!

Your spot on Billy Ray, work hard be honest and above all be kind. Theres a few of us getting on in the years that have a great work ethic and all of the above but unfortunately here in Australia its gone bye the way side big time. I live in hope that sticking to our principles will encourage the young to follow suit, i can in their eyes they are looking for guidance and its the best feeling in the world help someone. Community spirit has to come back and i can feel some tough times approaching perhaps that will bring it back. Thanks heaps BillyRay love your channel cheers Richard an old school boilermaker.

For me, this vid was one of the best you've done. How to safely and efficiently buck a log on the ground, after felling it safely in the right direction, is just the other half of the whole piece of work. It's the small bits of information that makes the difference; working the high side, keeping the log length small enough to be able to roll it, not completing the bucks so it stays off the ground etc etc. Top level info from a professional who enjoys his work and wants to genuinely share his knowledge. Thank you.

Great video! Every fall here in central Idaho I gather 6 to 7 cords of lodgepole and/or red fir over 2 months to heat my place with the wood stove. I usually gather 6’ lengths, put ‘em on the trailer and haul them back to buck and split. Then they get stacked and last through the winter. It’s my therapy.

hey buckin' im still watching, still learning and still coming back for more. I have been cutting my firewood for the last 17 years, about 4-5 chords per year. Im please to see that there are alot of things i do, that you do, when cutting. There are also a lot of things i do that you dont!!!, they are probably all the things i do wrong. I have had a couple of trees stand up on me over the years. But, one way or another i have got the job done. And for the most part its been all good. I like the work and environment. I run a MS200T from 2006 and a MS391 from 2010. The 200T is the nuts..The 391 is capable, but not great. I may HAVE to upgrade to a Husky 572...one day. I guess my point is, there is no point. I keep my chains sharp (thanks to your gullet vid) I buy good oil and fuel. I probably take too much off my rakers. But I'm safe and respect full as I see it when I'm in the woods. Im getting all hyped as I have just started the season here, we had a storm in Brittany so lots of trees down. thanks for your efforts. Love back at ya

I think the same out doors fresh air exercise. I am 61 years. I had a couple of logs of track so I chain and strap to back of truck and drag up hill to more level ground. Being careful not to break strap by logs digging into ground by dragging. Australian gumtree good way to spend a few hours exercising. Yes never hit ground with chain saw. Easy to use common sense cut 6 feet or 10' and roll log to cut log. Buckin cheers your videos are great. I under stand your chain sharpen the best. Improve my technique. Cheers.

I love the long form, unedited stuff with voiceover where you feel necessary so that I can try to pick up on the things that just come natural to you that may be difficult to even know that it’s not natural for others. Love that so badly want to teach what may at times feel unteachable… there does appear to be a level where one either gets it or not.

Hello from Norway. Amazing work etics and so true. Teaching my own kids the same and 33 % of them have learned it😂. Been out to day and splitting dead spruce and it felt good. Problem is that we dont have huge trees in Norway. Only thing I've got in my forest is 25-30 inch logs at max. But I'll guess the fall with a crash and make me feel good and keep me warm.
