Did you know that the Cricut Maker can cut wood?
As the students and teachers get ready to go back to school, I wanted to demonstrate how teachers can use their Cricut Maker to cut basswood and make their own puzzles.
I am going to demonstrate how to cut basswood using the original Cricut Maker and the Cricut Knife Blade and I hope you find this tutorial helpful.

Thanks for sharing! I've yet to use basswood and been wanting to try out new things other than tshirts, mugs, tumblers! Can't wait to try out.. This would too have been a good CCC project

The knife blade only works with the maker.

Thank you so much for being real with us…. It helps that there no such thing as Cricut fairy tales land. I do have a question I have a lot of Cricut mats but they have lost their sticky. I have washed and let them air dry. No matter what I do the sticky is there. Do I need to add some kind of product in it?

Hi there and I would say no. I only use Cricut Basswood with my Cricut Maker.

Hope you can help. When I am ready to select material to cut such as vinyl, I usually go up to upper right and hit on browser but suddenly it is not opening up to all the different choices??? Is there been updates in design space? When I want to see all my choices I can't and I made sure it was set on custome on my Explorer 2

Someone in my Facebook group suggested saving your work, closing out of design space and then opening it up again.

Yeah I’ve been having the same issue. Was working on a project all this week and it would not let me choose a different material at all. I could only use my saved materials which wasn’t much lol

Will the knife blade cut acrylic?

Hi there and nope. You can use the engraving blade to engrave 2mm acrylic.

Didn't you use the letters that you cut out from the piece you glued to the bottom piece ? That way c you didn't need to use another piece of bass wood. Also. When I need to check what im making to see if it cut through.... i place it farther down on the mat. Not at the very top SO when it's done and i need to check it the part i need to check isn't still hidden by the machine. If that makes sense. Just position your material a bit lower on your mat. I can't get my knife blade to even complete a single pass with the knife blade on the basswood supplied from Cricut. I just got the run around from the company and even tried on a different machine. after going through several sheets of wood I gave up.

I wish the cricut maker cut acrylic. In your opinion did the acrylic paint and modge pudge give the look of acrylic? Or just shiny wood? 😅. Those laser cutters are an investment 😢

I totally agree! The paint and mod podge gave it a shiny wood look and it smoothed it out.

I love your instructions and i may try again with a new blade. But Cricut customer service was not good. These machines just dont provide enough pressure and when i tried it took nearly all day. They advertise it like it will cut like with paper and fast!

It took a long time and I felt like it would not cut all the way through. I had to trace the back with my knife.

I’ve had my maker for about three years and never ventured to learn more than do a tea shirt once and a while. Caught your videos one day while browsing at home during the Covid 19 pandemic and got interested in learning to do more . I just purchased a week ago the joy extra which is supposed to do the same things as the maker just a little smaller. I’m revisiting a lot of your previous video for more techniques
