I really believe one of the most dangerous things is to allow yourself to be lulled into a conversation with an angry confrontational person in an attempt to "de-escalate" things, reason with them or calm them down. They don't care what you have to say anyway. Chances are they have already decided they want to hit you (not fight, but take cowardly liberties against you) and are setting you up into being distracted by a conversation so that they can align their foot/body position for that moment to hit. Most of these knockouts on YT seem to happen in these sorts of situations.

I worked for a company that helped people with mental illness and brain injuries. We specialized in combative patients and would take patients that most facilities wouldn't. We had over 100 patients who would come and go and I was a supervisor who ran the restraint team. I was present anytime a patient was hostile or combative.

If you're arguing with somebody face to face & they swing on you, it's totally not a sucker punch. You should always be ready when aggression is being shown & always throw the first punch. The knockout game is a sucker punch in my book imo. Good tip to avoid getting connected on though.

“If” you’re eyes are good enough, Thai long guard or Dracula guard is the right way to stuff that hook. Drac guard for right hook: wrap your left arm around your face so your mouth is buried in your elbow crease, stick your right arm straight out and touch your right ear to right shoulder and jam the right hand into opponents punching shoulder as the punch is starting. Everything sensitive is covered if you have the guard correct- it’s kinda like dabbing but with an arm extended in front. It’s just the opposite on the other side, I’m assuming right hook. This sets you up for a right knee to the sternum and then you can easily get your hands around the crown of his head if you so choose.. if not, the post arm allows you to manage your distance while keeping him from setting his feet for a punch. I’d never tell an inexperienced person to go to that first though. Maintain distance and have a plan to go first... you can stop punches with the two hand block type deal but it brings you into grappling range without any counter and doesn’t take his balance away. A post guard, like Dracula or other lets you control distance and his offense for a time.. me personally, distance and hands out mid-chest palms towards asshole and feet are in place to put shots where I want them if he closes the gap. In most cases, if he closes in and my hand touches his body, an elbow or a nice straight right is firing right away.

Its too fast and unpredictable. Your way won't work in a real world fight. It would still land either on the back of the head or an ear. It will be enough to throw you off or even knock you down. Best way is to get into your fighting stance with your lead hand extended right in his face while deescalading the situation verbally.

To all those who commented and says that there is no way to defend from a sucker punch... I SAY: No. There is. Be always on alert and keep 1 half step out of range...that's what NICK is trying to TEACH you here. That's the way not to get sucker punched. Try it yourself. Test it with a friend, challenge him/her to hit you while exercising the above...you won't get hit coz you WILL see it coming. As NICK profoundly mentioned in the video, the key is : BREAK your opponent's RANGE of attack.

Check out "Muhammad Ali Spars With Cus D’amato - The Lost Tapes Reel 1" on KZfaq ..... the great boxing teacher Cus D'Amato discusses boxing with Ali and gives away some valuable cues for free ...Cus demonstrates how he would react to the Ali shuffle, he demonstrates how Rocky Marciano would counter Ali's right hand ... he talks about Jack Dempsey and explains how bending forward is wrong, etc... All of that can be applied to street fights if you got the basics of boxing.

That sounds like good advice. I'm guessing these guys have never been in a real fight, actually been punched out in the street . But you know why they call it a sucker punch. Cuz I usually catch you off-guard and you usually don't see it coming. Bull shit, some guy don't set up or get aggressive. Some guys will be polite and nice and then they hit you without setting up or I'm getting in the stands So I'm calling b*******

Terrible advice. That is not the definition of a sucker punch. He’s describing one scenario where maybe that happens. But there are a multitude of other more common scenarios where you could be on the receiving end of a sucker punch. There’s a reason it’s called a sucker punch. Bottom line, you have to be careful of your surroundings at all times. But there is very little you can do when some cowardly bastard suddenly throws a punch at you and you don’t see it coming. Which is the definition of a sucker punch. You don’t see it coming.
