How to Delegate Effectively is a short and insightful video about the three steps to effective delegation.
Delegation is one of those skills that many leaders think they are good at, but when we ask the person they are delegating to, there is usually a different answer. Many leaders think they are clear when communicating tasks, but usually the team leaves feeling confused and overwhelmed. That's why this short video is crucial, as it will give you the system and tools to be able to delegate clearly, confidently and with precision.
In this video you'll discover:
- the 3 steps to effective delegation (this will dramatically increase the level of 'clarity' for both you and the receiver)
- the #1 mistake managers make when delegating a task - and how to avoid making this mistake
- the simple mindset shift that you must make to delegate effectively
- why most people leave confused after being delegated to... And the specific system to use to prevent this confusion
- your walk away feeling confident, clear and equipped to delegate to your team effectively...straight away!

The hardest for me is on how to delegate tasks (usually with very short timeframe), convey the urgency to them and yet not sound bossy... All in one. 😅
@iloveshinyobjects

That is hard. Maybe reinforce the why your are sounding so bossy & make sure your hearts right (you care about them more than the task).

A: the most difficult thing for me when delegating is prioritization as well as consistent follow up on tasks that move the organisation and ideals forward.

The hardest part is knowing how to convey the task with the sense of urgency intended. Timeframe is a huge factor for me. When the day is made up of a multitude of mini tasks one doesn't always have time to explain why.

most difficult thing would be trusting that the person can deliver the same quality work as i might have done it. This is especially true for tasks with shorter time frames ... :/

If this is the case don’t delegate.  The tasks that have to be very precisely done or are too difficult that no one can get them done exactly right except you obviously shouldn’t be delegated.  But if you think with your wise counsel, advice, & step by step materials it would be possible for someone else to do as good a job as you.  Take a little time (when you can) to start working on the process/documents/step by step procedures & overall wise counsel they would need to be able to do it.  The best time would be as you are working on that thing, perhaps have a word document open, or a piece of paper & write in the helpful advice/wise counsel as you think about it & of course as you have the time to do so.  And as a backup you can do it yourself; as they are doing it.  In case they don’t do a good enough job, you will still have your own version done.  At this moment you can do 1 of 3 things: 1. Continue to train them up to do it as good as you. 2. Consider someone else who could do it better. 3. Or hire someone new that compliments where your current team is weak & should be able to do as good of a job as you. o And just because you’re the best at it doesn’t always mean you should be doing it; again it comes down to priorities.  You might need a wise mentor or your boss to help you figure this out.

I find the most difficult thing when delegating is to not hurt people's feelings. This is probably a fear since delegating is still rather new to me in the professional world. Also one person I am delegating right now is also a friend, so this feels a little odd. I do want to be on eye level when we get things done, but I also need him to do what I consider that needs to be done. Feels like a fine silver lining. =)

really simple easy to remember way of looking at it. Many popular methods have a lengthy process and starting here is a great spot for new managers. For me, it is giving TOO much instruction thinking I am being helpful, which comes off as micromanaging.

Hardest part I face is when you get swamped with projects and you don't have enough time to train so your team can be given assignments. Following up is also a problem when you get overly busy, you almost have to expect and trust your team to come back with the results when done.

Most difficult for me is feeling like I'm bossing people around. I've been a manager for a long time because I'm good at what I do but managing people is completely different. I've gotten better and delegating because I've learned doing it all myself is impossible, but there are still many many things that I do not delegate simply because I do not want to ask someone to do a job that I feel is my responsibility. And I don't want to take them away from whatever it is they're working on, even though they work for me :) Can you help with creating courage to delegate?

I'd say, oddly, the most difficult thing about delegating is splitting the work up enough to not disclose trade secrets. Or, trusting someone enough to allow them knowledge of the secrets so that they can work on a project.

1st. Make a list of every task you do in your job every day. Keep doing this until you can’t come up with any new tasks.  Set reminders at lunch & before you go home to write down all of the tasks that you did that ½ of the day; before you forget. 2nd. Put a smiley face next to each task that you enjoy doing. 3rd. Put a checkmark by the 1’s you are good at doing. 4th. & put a star by the most important tasks for your particular position or job. o For the tasks that don’t have any (smile faces, check marks or stars); write next to them the technology, or person that would be best at doing each of those things.
