I thought, should have worn pants. Not jeans. lol BUT the worst is those shoes! YES, women DO look at your shoes! Jason's shoes scream: Unemployed & lives with Mummy. AND he doesn't. Those shoes, _need_ to go into the bin.

Because it's Derren, you never know when it might happen. You might have met him on the street and given him money, then he just made you forget about it for a year. If you ever meet Derren, be wary for about 2 years. Anything could happen at any point.

@GoodRiddanceGooglePlus Damn man you really have a lot of pent up anger for some reason. All that stuff you said that you aimed at some guy on this video is so unnecessarily hateful that it makes me wonder what has happened in your life that makes you react in such a manner and say such vile things. Either way, I hope you realise 1 day that saying such things to people is not the right way to go about things and that you'll find a much nicer way to express yourself and I hope that you do get some help for your depression and sadness.

+Richard Harlos II If you have a goal or list of goals, write them down and pick one of them. Every day spend 5-10 minutes doing something practical towards it, even if it's just planning or researching something important. For example if your goal is to write a book (since I fancy myself as a writer) then spend ten minutes writing each day, or just write 100 words (whatever's comfortable to you), and each day you'll be a little closer to getting what you want. You can't transform your life instantly, it takes dedication and time. If you start immediately, but in small doses, then the time will pass as ever, but you'll actually have achieved something :)

You wanna exp the same effect? Ok go into dark room at night. Close your eyes and imagine Derren appear in front of you. And then he talk to you as if he was your best friend, pointing out this and that, giving you awesome examples, tips and advices. Just imagine that. And while you listening to him you realize everything he said is so true and easy to realize. At the end you feel like you really overcome your shyness. You look at it as if it was something small, simple and was never actually there. From now on confidence is something natural for you. Its self-hypnosis or self-suggestion and if you imagine this without any doubt and believe in this - it will work.

+Aika Luna Yes offcourse psychedelics are good for it as well - as we are engaging with ourselfs within. But knowing proper technic, believe in it and actually doing it is most important. You can success without use of psychedelic - for those who are not confident enough to use them I think its good to know this. Taking psychedelics will greatly enhance this method.

Yeah, but... what did Derren actually say to Jason? And HOW did he say it? The hypnosis session, was turned into a montage of clips and images, with a voice-over narration, to condense it. He was also doing things physically with Jason, as he was speaking to him. The effect afterward, was dramatic; you could see it in Jason's face. You could see it in the way he behaved so differently at the next speed dating session. So I don't doubt it worked; would just like to have seen the whole hypnosis session. Who wouldn't want some of that?

Sadly most people are not responsible enough to have this sort of knowledge and use it properly. While this is nice in theory the damage we could do to people can far outweigh the good if we are not fully aware of what it is we are projecting and manipulating.
@MrJord137

I look at this from a computer sciency aspect, if you consider that things like our nervous system are nothing more than complex electrical circuitry, and our brains simply recieve those signals, process them and react to them accordingly thus creating "pain" sensations etc. it makes me admire psychology and the whole field of neuroscience. the human eye is to the brain what the camera is to a processor. The problem i've found with programming is that when you get good, you can use it for good by creating software for pacemakers, or analysing pictures of cancerous tumors etc. you can also use programming to steal from people, manipulate them etc. the difference between a good software programmer and a hacker is intention, and the difference between a psychopathic warlord and a good innovative leader is also intention. When you have the knowledge to influence decision, be it the "decisions" of a computer or human, you can either use those "powers" for good or bad. He could create many many monsters, it's good that he doesn't run a program imho

Confidence and self assuredness are key. Especially here. Your goal is not to get laid. That's for idiots and you can get laid easy. The goal is finding someone who just clicks and you connect right away. If you're shy in the real world, you might go for the mirror. Over time and a bit of drink if you go for alcohol you might take the lead. Male or female. As long as one of you does, if your socially awkward. Like me. Take a pause. Deflect by calling a waiter or something. In that moment think of a question it pertains to you personally and then ask. Take a bit of charge. Only slightly but you find you get easier as you ask. The bell. Perhaps you struck out. But each ding is a reinvigorating chance to try again. Your confidence grows. Rejection is second nature. Ding. Just be yourself. Ding. Lead the conversation. Ding. You've accepted yourself and the person opposite either clicks or doesn't. You'll know when they do. And after the excersise they will too.

I need Derren to show up. Not to work on my confidence, but just to help me get how to people. I'm generally pretty confident, I'm just not good at talking, just can never think about what to say until about 20 minutes after the point where it'd be appropriate to say it. I just forget how conversations work in real life. Someone asks me a question, i answer, and completely forget to ask them back, until it's been too long and asking them the question would be more awkward now than keeping with whatever we're currently going. Online i know how to talk, i can have casual conversations for ages. I just hate small talk with a passion. I can talk for days about things that i care about, but if people end up with the weather, or general hobbies, I'll end up zoning out and forgetting how to word.

After watching the vid I had a read in the commentsection. I have a somewhat different take on what is shown here. First of all: I think Derren is amazing and an absolute master of what he does. However, I'd like to point out that confidence can not be begotten by simply changing ones mindset. The way it's done in the video is a quickfix and built on quicksand, it would take one rejection or breakup and this guy's confidence would collapse like a house of cards. Easy come, easy go. If you're looking for more confidence, become good at something, keep doing it, create a sense of pride in yourself, help other people and stop being selfinvolved fussing about your perceived lack of confidence. Not the advice people would want, but this actually works in the long run.

unfortunately the only way to overcome that is by pushing yourself at every opportunity to do things that are out of your comfort zone - e.g. public speaking, talking to strangers - after a few tries it becomes normal and you wonder why you were so scared of it in the first place. If you want to know how to develop confidence its simple make improvements and progress in your life. This can be in literally anything for example a sport you like, a hobby, your job, your fitness, your style. Fuck even improving your daily grooming routine will make you better looking and more confident. Just find something you're passionate about and improve it and with time you'll gain confidence. If you don't have any passions right now my best advice would be to start working out a few times a week, don't push it too hard and don't go in with any expectations.

+GladX I'm not being rude, but as someone who is confident in most things, and a therapist of many years, your theory is over simplistic and naive. Your comment sounds like 'self help' mantras, and they don't work! Confidence is something we are all born with, in that we assume all is fine, but life's experiences can rob us of confidence, be it from others and how they treat us, or by elders not being confident, and 'transmitting' negativity and fears. I get the whole 'act as if....' but that really is almost insulting to people who are crushed by insecurity. It's alongside comments like "Just cheer up, that's how not to be depressed!" (oh brother!) Yes, I do advocate what I call 'being an inch outside your comfort zone', but to expect people to act like they are the most important person alive, is laughable. Besides, that's not confidence at all! That's arrogance, and a worthless suggestion to someone who would rather die (figuratively speaking) than be at a party, trying to be 'cock of the walk!' OMG if all I had to do was to suggest this, life would be easy, but undoing a lifetime of negativity, take work...lots and lots of work, on both our sides.

+LFOVCF Great, I'll put your suggestion into practice. Oh wait... you didn't actually add any proactive suggestions. My bad.

+LFOVCF I would like to politely, but firmly, disagree and confirm what GaldX suggested. Feel free to agree or disagree, but I will put forward a personal example. You can have confidence in one area, but lack confidence in some other area. Perhaps you have a natural confidence in the area of skydiving. It's just an area where you lack fear and hold confidence in your natural ability to jump out of a plane. On the other hand you can indeed build confidence in other areas by just going out and doing it. A few years ago I wanted to try stand up comedy. I was worried that I would bomb, that I would stink. I took improv classes and gained confidence in doing improv and comedy. I also found books on visualizations. I did a specific technique where I imagined succeeding despite people hating me. In this case you imagined worse and worse scenarios and pictured yourself winning the group over despite them booing and tossing tomatoes and swearing at you. I did this visualization many many times. Years later I was talking to a guy I used to do improv and comedy with. I explained that I had been nervous and I told him about the technique. This guy worked with me doing improv and comedy for years. He said he had no idea that I had ever been nervous. Another example. I was nervous about meeting women. I did a free on line course from 'Mystery' and 'Style' this is going way back. It was a month long challenge. You approached all kinds of people. Men woman, groups of people and a lot of the time you would say really mundane things. You'd ask for directions or you'd tell a bad joke. Just stupid harmless stuff. After a while it became easy to talk to people. Even now my friends are always blown away by how I can appraoch strangers without fear. This last summer a couple of friends and I were at the state fair. A lot of people were carrying some kind of object and my friends were trying to find out what the thing was. I just walked up to some random guy and asked him about it. It was a crowd of thousands of people and I just walked up to people and asked about the object. He told me a long story about it and I said thanks. When I went back and told my friends, I could see by their expressions that they were thinking "How can he just walk up to a stranger like that?" And yet although I have confidence to get in front of people and speak or do comedy I do not have the confidence to jump out of a plane or to start a business. If I rehearsed it, if I did the work I probably could. So confidence can be a learned skill, but you have to apply it to the specific goal to achieve success in that specific area.

wetlazer Actually, your case here is also a case I would agree with, but it was the suggestion that people who are very much lacking in confidence, not just a bit lacking, act as if they are 'cock of the walk', they can't, they wont, they don't know how. Being a bit scared to do stand up, is in itself, self inflicted, you get a choice to do it or not, but the fact you even considered it, meant you had a desire, so you 'pushed through'. Your comment here shows you have/had 'drive', most do not. Sure, of course, anyone can learn a skill, even the skill of specific confidence, but without 'drive/motivation' it's unlikely they will. I totally agree with you regarding people having confidence in certain areas and not others, but that was not the premise of your original comment. It's great that you mastered social confidence, it's one of the hardest things to do. I help people who cannot even speak to a shopkeeper, and it takes quite a while to get someone from that, to being able to have a conversation with a stranger. Great work with your personal journey, you inspire others.

it has never been easy for me to be confident in the room that is full of confident people. I feel like I am in the lowest station when I feel like those people are way better and stronger than me. i think they will beat me anytime they want to. i just feel the lost before I started fighting. This is horrible.

Its a mindset. Like Derren said, its not a have it or don't thing. Its vizualising success and meditating in the right way for the most part. You can take care of the little things but the elephant in the room is the stories you tell to yourself. Change the stories and change your life.

Meet more interesting people? lol or be interested in what they like rather than expecting them to cater to your interests. That's more likely to create a favourable interaction than "I like" statements. Try "so what are you into"..."I was curious about that, tell me a bit more about it" ... "I get the impression you're into X, I'm not wrong am I?". People love to talk about themselves when they feel someone wants to listen without judgement.

I think it's more likely to be a kind of placebo effect since the mental exercise was led by Derren Brown right infront of him. He was also likely chosen because his application made him seem likely to be open to suggestion. I've tried visualisation techniques, and I don't have a lot of success because you have to constantly do it and reinforce it before you give up.
