This is part two of how to diagnose a fueling issue on your N54 powered BMW. In this video I show you how to replace your low pressure fuel sensor.
Once replaced I take it for a drive to see if it helped the hesitation issue and data log to see how the fuel pump is holding up.
There will be a part three of this series where I replace my low pressure fuel pump for maintenance and to see how the data log looks with a fresh fuel pump. Took care of this sensor today along with my alternator voltage regulator. I took advantage and cleaned my throttle body while it was uninstalled. Really appreciate the great content

I just got a Bosch version of the new BMW updated LPFP sensor for $40.00 at FCP Euro. I will installing it this weekend. I’ll probably pull the negative off the battery the night before and then change it on a cold engine with no fuel pressure built up! :)

I want to thank you for the hard work you put into making these videos and telling us about all of these things. I just bought a 2008 335i and I got an extremely good deal for it because it has these exact type of problems. It's my second n54 335i but I didn't have my first one long enough to experience these problems. So I did a data long about an hour ago after getting codes for misfires (I have ordered new injectors, well, used ones as I just don't have the new money now. Plugs, coils, valve cover, Cam sensors on order) and the code 2AAF "Plausibility Low pressure fuel pump". With Pro tool on my android. (first time doing that type of thing lol) and the read out just revving it at idle was dropping massively each rev. No big driving load even. I had it set to read out in Bar (not sure why lol) and it went from 5.1 bar to 2.9, 3.1, 4.2, etc each time I just revved it to no more than 3500 rpm. So from what you are thinking and what I'm understanding is that my sensor probably works but my LPFP is likely shot. I started misfiring bad on cold starts then after it warmed up it was driving fine after clearing codes. Then today it didn't recover and stayed missing and limping. Very bad. I wish you'd be able to answer me but I'm sure you won't even know I wrote this LOL. I'll just have to dig as much as I can on it all and hope I get it right tomorrow when I go to buy the part or parts. Thank you so much again for the great info and videos!

I'm glad you're doing this. I'm having the exact same issue; I'm really eyeing my rail pressure as well as LPFP pressures. I honestly think it might be my stock diverter valves. So far for the hesitation issue; I am starting to have it post cam position sensor failure. I replaced the exhaust side sensor, and now I am at a loss. I am having hesitation throughout the entire rev band only on very slight throttle; 5-30% accelerator. I've done both boost solenoids, both cam ledges, both vanos solenoids, both check valves, a new oil filter housing cap with o-rings, new oil, new NGK spark plugs gapped to .022." I am holding vacuum very very well, and I still peak boost to 19ish psi. I can't for the life of me figure this out, next will be to change the stock charge pipe to aftermarket with a BOV instead of the stock DV's. This issue is ridiculous man, surely I thought throwing parts at the car would fix stuff. I have been watching a lot of your videos lately, you've taught me a lot in terms of coding, i've coded the hell out of this car myself successfully with your videos and I truly appreciate your down to the last drop style of videos on youtube. I come to equate you to being just like me! We are very similar my man! Similar car similar problems and a similar urge to fix it ourselves no matter what. I hope you keep us all updated and if anything shoot me a pm I'd love to have a chat with you regarding this damn oscillation/bucking issue on light throttle!

by the way no codes........I just threw a GHOST code for "cylinder 2 superknock" today going upstate for Thanksgiving though........YIKES.

Hey I'm about to install a new low pressure fuel pump to see how that might change things. I did read that the hesitation could come from boost leaks and went over all the pipes with clamps on them to make sure they were tight. The clamp going to the stock charge pipe was a little loose, I notices that there was a buildup of dirt and looked like some oil vapor leaked from the line. I didn't over tighten that as it's a plastic line but gave the clamp a few turns and it improved things. You're probably onto something thinking it could be boost leak related. I dub up a thread where someone fixed a hesitation issue by replacing the o-rings on the stock diverter valves. I ordered them up and will be posting a video on that. I figured it could be a good maintenance item but regardless I'd like to document me trying to fix this as it might help others fix similar issues on their cars.

I'm currently having fuel leaks but I think I found that its leaking from the main feed line and dumping fuel on top of my pump hat, so I wanted to know if the o ring kit you have linked has the size I would need for that line and maybe the smaller line while I'm at it. Much appreciated if you'd get back to me. Great content as always btw 👌

What scan tool and App are you using to scan your BMW and clear adaptations? I have a 2011 535i X Drive and a 2015 X5 50i. I am tryin to find a scan tool which will work for both models as I work on both vehicles myself. I considered the Bavarian technical scan tool but it will not read F model codes.

i fitted a k&n replacment filter...when i fired it up it missfired and ticked for 10 mins...then went normal with a deeper sound...is this normal....i started it up from full cold any info would be greatly apreciated

Thanks for your great videos. I noticed you didn't replace your fuel line with the new style fuel line. Is that necessary?

No it wasn't necessary to replace the line, just add an o-ring to the new sensor.

I have a question. Can this cause no start issue? My Lpfp isn't priming anymore. I have tried Ekpm3 upgrade and lpfp upgrade as well, but it doesn't prime. It cranks thou. It showed a code: 2FBE Fuel pressure after motor stop I have changed the crank position sensor as well. New starter new Hpfp new lpfp new lpfp regulator new fuel rail with the upgraded sensor and new alternator. I may try to swap back to the old rail and check for any missing connections. I really don't know what else to look for. Thanks.

That causes a limp mode? And what's normal reading for high fuel pressure sensor psi? My stays at idle at 680 - 750 and when I drive at high speed goes over 800 but once I press gas give me a negative reading. It depends on how hard I press pedal, then back to normal. Probably -400 or -1200. Psi it could be normal? My low ps never goes below 60 psi.

You suppose to install an adapter. For accurate reading tip need to be flat.

Did you get a 29F3 from this? Mine says shorted to positive, reading 6500 hPa (almost 100 PSI). I don't have MHD tune / tuner and with INPA I'm not sure how to read that particular sensor. But I'm about to attempt intake valve cleaning and hit this while I'm in there. I was wondering since your reading froze at mid 50s PSI if you got a 29F3.

Car threw a 29F3, car runs fine but the fuel pressure read 120psi+ then dropped to 60psi, and continued to drop and raise. Should I just replace it or look for smth else? Cars on an upgraded lpfp as well

I have an issue where I get crank no start. Don't really get a code. I don't hear the injectors activate I put another hpfp. Changed cams and crank position sensors still no start

My f30 crank cannot start the engine. Sometimes the engine turn on huat for a few minute suddenly turn off. Check engine messsge and drivetrain multifuction. Dealer already scan the fault is high pressure sensor. Its is true the sympton of high pressure sensor fault?

hey man ! i just got a 2AAF code ... carly saved some live freeze data and it says i was at like 6k rpm and the pressure was like 65 psi ... do you think its the lpfp or just the sensor?

So your old sensor was reading 55.7 therefore the car was always asking for more pressure in theory. It's nice to see you can swap to the new version of sensor instead of replacing the entire low pressure fuel line, just by adding an O ring to the new sensor.

Good replacement...should just upgrade Lpfp to stage 2 for around 300 bucks....at least this way you could run a fuel mix giving you more power gains. and with higher octane i believe its good for the engine.

I replaced my lpfp and sender unit today. I am still getting idle dips and definitely feels down on power, but its much better than it was before. Gonna do the hpfp and the two fuel sensors next. I am at 190k so, i can guarantee that the hpfp is dying. No limp mode yet

It should be around 70 psi on average.

My low pressure fuel sensor broke when i tried unclipping it after putting in a brand new genuine Bmw HPFP. Does it cause any issues, i tried plugging it in anyway and it reads a constant 6.0 now my car doesn't target any boost at all. I have the old style sensor so i would need a new sensor and o-ring combo or i will have to replace the whole line w sensor. Most importantly I was wondering if the LPFP sensor causes boost/power problems since after the install of the new hpfp, oil cooler/filter gaskets, throttle body manifold gaskets i no longer target any boost and power is seriously down

The low fuel pump isn't pumping when you walk up to it anymore and gave me a misfire at first it now its giving me hpfp error but I just added a new one

It was low fluid in the transmission, one of the lines was leaking.

I get 0 psi on my log from lpf sensor whent back 3 years on saved log and never got a reading car is running good hpfp producing over 2700 psi,hpfp replacd by bmw uner warranty 3 years ago could it be that the sensor is dead ?

Yeah it's possible for the car to run fine with no reading from the sensor. You'd want to replace it so you can catch a failing low pressure fuel pump down the line.

he is using the MHD Flasher App. the App is around $99 and you can run diagnostics with it as well as a DME flash but each DME map flash costs $49 I believe. I personally use JB4 which does roughly the same but i'm not sure if the MHD App costs for the diagnostics. It saves a ton of money rather than getting BMW to diagnose issues for $100-$200 per visit.

I have a code P15DF. Does that means its HPFP or the low pressure fuel sensor? I've had the HPFP already replace twice since I owned the car.

Have you changed your fuel pressure regulator? You may be losing pressure when the car sits and it's taking time to build back up on a cold start leading to that code. How many miles on the car?

@@VehicularDIY I haven't changed the fuel regulator. But I think the last time it got service for HPFP the dealer changed the fuel rail, injectors, new plugs etc. Vehicle has 100361 miles. When I go to start the vehicle on cold start it will sometimes rev up to about 1500-1800 rpms. Then settle and sometimes turn off and I'll have to restart it. Only code is P15DF. I was thinking about changing low press sensor first then HPFP if the sensor didn't fix it. Do you know of any better aftermarket HPFP that's better than BMW'S?

@@VehicularDIY I have code P0015, turned out to be Vanos solenoids. When the car went limp and I restarted it, I had lost a significant amount of power. VANOS Solenoid change didn't restore power fully. At lower RPM I have to push pedal much further down, car shakes slightly like its coming from the rear. Any idea what this could be?

Chris Roberts Just a flathead, mine seemed to be easy to remove. I've seen people comment that it could be a pita. Maybe try a couple small picks if it gives you trouble.

big help man suffering the same issue with my tune from wedge car runs perfect but as soon as 19 psi boost fuel pressure drop I have an early n55 with gear driven pump and similar lpfp sensor I have upgraded lpfp walbro 450 changed rail pressure sensor but still have the original lpfp sensor , I have also replaced hpfp replacing the lpfp sensor will be my last effort to resolve this problem,i sure hope it works interestingly if I ease in the throttle all the way to redline np ,but if start from the dig wot all gears by the time I hit 3rd hesitation ! really frustrating !

Thanks a lot for your great videos, I will change my low pressure sensor at my 335i 2007 but I guess i also need to change the pipe regarding this note I found at internet ? Product Details Low pressure supply pipe to high pressure fuel pump, includes low pressure sensor 13537622231 This fuel feed line brings low pressure fuel to the high pressure fuel pump of your N54 powered BMW. In many cases this fuel hose is a required replacement if the low pressure sensor needs to be replaced because the old style low pressure sensor is no longer available and the new low pressure fuel sensor is not compatible with the original line.

Why do all of you have such problems with your n54s in the US, I'm in Australia and I have had my 335i for over 15 years only thing ive replaced is the turbos for tdo4s no other problems in fact it is one of the most reliable cars i have ever owned, let me geuss you lot insist at some time to use E85 fuel and that is the killer, your fuel isnt the best anyways in general.

That tablet isn't very good it's a Nexus 9. I just use my phone now and the software is MHD.
