The Spyderco Valloton is a knife with a lot of screws, but ultimately, it's not too tricky to take down. Here, we do a bit of knife-rescue 911 to prevent the spread of rust, but mostly, it's smooth sailing.
Also, note that Spyderco has now changed their warranty policy so that disassembly is A-OK and Red-Loctite is banished. For more information: • Spyderco just fixed th...

Just brought one yesterday, not cheap but probably the best finished and most well engineered knife I've ever seen. Oh and beautiful. Stunning knife.

Here's what I don't get. The Slysz Bowie gets discontinued but this model lives on.
@tacticalcenter8658
@tacticalcenter8658 6 жыл бұрын
The slysz was priced out of the general market that most people can afford. had it not been 3D milled, maybe not quite as low as Spydiechef prices, but closer to that price bracket. its a phenomenal knife. but if your not making profit, its got to go. and it will be sad to see it go. im just glad i got one. word on the street is that there will be additional Slysz models in the future. hope thats true.

Very impressive Nick. That you take it apart and drop the parts. I would be taking pictures and notes. LOL. I have that knife and LOVE IT. When I discovered 800-3,000 grit sand paper/cloths a new world opened up for me. I can make satin blades mirror finish now. But anyway....If that was my knife, I would have polished the hell into a mirror out of all those liner guts, but you did it nice. Just sayin' the outer limit it can be taken if it's the actual owner wanting to have fun.

@tacticalcenter8658
@tacticalcenter8658 6 жыл бұрын
the bad, its not really blue carbon fiber, its a composite of carbon fibers and micarta. also its sharp but really thick behind the edge. the ugly, thumbstud and back spacer look ugly and what looks like wood screws, directly screw into the alum backspacer. the good the ergo's and its good quality and materials. the great the action. i like to carry it and fidget with it. tho my thumb gets really sore from that terrible thumb stud, you can finger flick it, after it wears in some. i don't particularly like to use it for cutting alot of different things due to its too thick behind the edge. i too would like to see Nicks review on the zt 0850.

That detent ball track doesn't seem to terminate squarely at the edge of the blade Tang. I wonder if that might have caused the visible detent ball wear.

This knife has such a classic 1960's design that I thought it would look better without the clip so I removed mine and I'll be doggone if it wasn't a subtle cosmetic improvement. I've got dozens of clip knives so what the hell.

I love mine too, I also took my clip off quickly. Most People blowing this knife off have never handled it. It is fantastic. The thick blade is badd-ass. The hardware all around the pivot, perfect.

Ok Nick, I looked up this video to see how to take the knife apart as I am curious and I think I was interested in buying one. However the corrosion inside the liner lock is a dealbreaker for me. Just curious why you did not use a lead pencil to get rid of the rust and corrosion in the interior of the liner lock? That is what I use when I find rust or corrosion. I know you do not like the thickness of the blade style, however that is one of the things that makes the knife attractive to me. Also don’t you usually polish the brass washers? Really smooth when you do. Thanks for posting this video!

WHOA I just looked at the blade stock and it's like 3 inches thick! And this knife is kinda ugly to be honest.
@RoyalDetailing661
@RoyalDetailing661 3 жыл бұрын
Agree to disagree, I find it quite elegant. As for the blade thickness, it’s actually 3 millimeters at its thickest point. While 3 millimeters is far from 3 inches, it is thicker than anything you’ve used in an attempt to please a women in bed.

Hey Nick, love your videos man! Have you tried Ballistol on a knife before? I use it on my pistols as well as my knives (washers and bearings) and love the results for all of the above. It is safe and not noxious at all, check it out, you might be amazed (I was). Cheers! Edit: Ballistol has a cumulative effect, it is hard to describe, but Kickok45 describes it like an old iron skillet (slick). Really great, safe for wood and plastic as well.

Ugh, quit using sand paper for the love of all things holy. Use a small rechargable polisher with compound so you don't remove material. Also try kroil, it works well.
@madstork5149
@madstork5149 6 жыл бұрын
Disagree...Sometimes a Mfgr. needs minor correction, besides he only removed rust. That liner is in no way hurt by that minor micro-metal removal. I've micro-sanded metal washers to thin them, and turned the knife into a smoother beautiful thing in a half hour without hurting it. Turning a boring satin finish Blade into a mirror finish requires removing dead/coarse surface steel the Mfgr was too cheap to remove. So there are many reasons to use ultra grit sand papers.

I feel very sorry being not allowed to send you either the best custom-made fixed-blade hunting knives or low-quality conjunction-shack kinds of the knives. We have quite strict customs policy there, alas. I need to be a state-licensed knife manufacturer to do so. But - if you are sending any kind of a knife for the warranty - it's not regulated THAT strictly. Even when you are sending registered (numbered and registered in your hunting permit) knife, it's easier and better for you to register that in customs procedure..
