How to Divide a Flax Lily

In this video, i show you how to propagate a flax lily by division. Simply cutting the root ball up into sections will allow you to multiply your plants. This can save you tons of money over a plants lifetime. Also for the piece of one plant, you can divide it to fill a much larger area and great!

I found your channel this morning and subscribed. I also live on the Alabama coast and am an avid gardener. Thanks for showing what grows well in our wicked summer heat. I use the Back to Eden gardening method. It works well.

I live in Cherokee county I just bought some of this looked up how to care for them found your video. Do you think they will be on in my 8b zone in the ground?

yes. that's where we are. we recently got changed to 9a but have a few freezes. they have come back every year so far

Will the pieces that have been cut off with virtually no roots attached strike and grow ?- I tried to divide and all that happened was these rootless bits - I saved the main clump though!

I have never tried that. I've only had to divide a couple times and always tried to make sure there were roots

Can flax Lily be cut close to the base? Or would this damage the plant?

You can cut them to the ground

Do you ever get any winter burn on your flax lilies?

I did this year. we had about 3 days of sub 30 weather and it burnt them up. my neighbor had some that didn't get affected, i think they are out of the wind moreso

We had two nights of temps in the 20s and that burned most of my flax lilies. I cut some of them to the ground yesterday. I wonder how long it will take to regrow?

Mine seem to grow about the rate of liriope. if they're a couple years old they will be like full size by mid summer even after being cut back, like 90 days
