You don't pick it up from a deadlift position, you set the KB a couple feet in front of you so your feet and the KB form a triangle. You then pull the KB back like hiking a football to start the movement with momentum instead of standing up and swinging in bigger and bigger arcs. This is meant to save energy especially when using heavier weights. Also she's not allowing her forearms/wrist make contact with her inner thighs before hinging her hips. She's initiating her hip hinge too early basically. Allowing your forearms/wrists to make contact with your body before hinging your hips is a kinesthetic cue that helps you activate the muscles around your pelvis and glutes. It's kind of like "catching" the KB with your body then throwing it back. Watch Lebe Stark videos for legit KB techniques

Really like tbis video and the comments from hero kb swingers using things, but bounce, squats for an exercise thats a hip hinge. You can do it both eats dwpending on what you want to focus on, if the aim is glutes, hip hinge wnd a good lower back then rhis is a good guide. If you struggle and want tonuse rhe arms on inner thighs and but bounce and not control the bell then rhats up to you. Younjust wont develop the hip hinge and inner core power that this exercise is great for (i like both but prefer the hip hinge)

A slight knee bend in order to allow the hips to travel back is allowed. Bending the knees and changing shin angle/allowing knees to go forward/allowing hips to go down instead of back, is incorrect. This is not a great video though.

Knees should absolutely bend to facilitate a proper hinge. Building momentum is a waste of energy and promotes a lack of tension. Starting in a deadlift position with the bell in front of you is the proper start position. Tucking your chin is absolutely wrong. You have vertebrae in your neck just like in your back. If you're going to keep your back straight why wouldn't you keep your neck straight too? Especially since you talked about not turning your head. Feet should be solidly rooted to the ground. It's nearly impossible to perform an effective swing in running shoes like that. Happy to help. 😎

Is this safe to do with diastasis recti?
@eddiedeedon7462
@eddiedeedon7462 3 жыл бұрын
The idea behind a proper kettlebell swing is to create tension through your midsection. So I would say swings would be excellent for diastasis recti but always consult your doctor if it's oke for you to be exposed to that kind of stress.

@GeorgieBarnes
@GeorgieBarnes 11 ай бұрын
You’re actually not supposed to start like she does it. You start from the ground. The kettlebell is out in front and you hike the kettlebell back. You can swing quite heavy kettlebells, so doing it the way she showed at the beginning will be a lot harder and have less momentum.

I’d start going light first if you aren’t sure of the form, form over weight any day. Also depends on what your find heavy not what others find heavy. I’d suggest actually learning the movement first and then go onto weight.
@GeneralTruth78
@GeneralTruth78 3 жыл бұрын
Start with 10 or 12g depending on your fitness level, your body gets used to it pretty quick. Id say begin with 12kg, then move upto 16kg.
@eddiedeedon7462
@eddiedeedon7462 3 жыл бұрын
The first two comments here are spot on. With swings you actually don't want to "start light to focus on form" because the movement is based around efficiency. Therefore a heavier weight (but something you can still handle) will sometimes force you to do it properly whereas you could just manhandle a lighter weight.
@aga_3776

Good one. First of all, you should do your swings barefoot. How do you want to ground your feet in those cushioned shoes? No grounding, no energy. Your swings are worth nothing. Second, who starts swings from a deadlift position? Probably only you and your followers. You should place the bell in front of you and pull it to get the momentum.
