How To Do A Soil Test For Food Plots E1. Taking soil samples for food plots is one of the most overlooked steps in food plotting for deer. Without doing food plot soil samples you could be wasting a lot of money. Without the proper Soil PH Fertilizer can not be utilized by the plants. Thank you for the helpful video. I want to know how deep do I dig. I plan on like a throw and grow. Cant till this ground. It is deep in the woods of Maine. Got hemlock ,spruce and pine and some white cedar throughout.

No problem at all. For screening I use domain outdoors they have a product called incognito Winter wheat is best bought locally for the most part. Switch grass I would say real world wildlife products Brassicas I would use one of there mixed from domain outdoors

What are your thoughts on mock scrape gel near commonly travelled deer paths and have you had any luck with it?

I’ve never used a scrape gel. Most of that stuff doesn’t do much.

Here in maine we have bunch of snow and the ground is frozen still be end of March before I could get a sample but my question is take a sample every year from the same plot or will the soil stay at the right ph once u get it there

Does the soil have to be dry when it is sent off?

You can take it if it’s wet just let it dry before shipping it out

Hi dave, say your cec is 5 so you times that by 10 so your soil can absorb 50 pds, how long does it take the plants to absorb fertlizer. Thank you

I’m general yes. Of the ph is good and the plants can uptake the nutrients I would think it should be pretty fast. Once you get a rain and stuff for the fertilizer to break down
