You can also throw down flattened cardboard boxes to prevent oil on the surface you're working on

Thank you! I'll be doing my first oil change since this is my first car i bought! Does it make a difference if i have the sport model? And are the oil filters universal?

That shouldn’t make a difference. And there are different types of filters. And there’s a lot of different manufacturers that have different names and model numbers for the filters that are compatible with the same car. The easiest thing to do is just ask somebody at a parts store what filter you need, or check what filter is on your car now and see if you can order that same one.

But definitely recommended by most mechanics. Priming the oil filter is a real thing. Not as big of a deal with newer cars but definitely does more good

Use a plastic cup over the filter

I punch a hole in the filter and drain it into the pan prior to loosening it. Less mess than this tutorial video.
