Have you seen Mr. Steele and other pilots do that awesome move where they circle an object, keeping it in the center of their screen? Whatever you call that move, here's an in-depth look at how to do it. Some names for the move include: circle-strafe, side-slip, and nose-in pirouette.

If the centre points stays the same, it's a funnel dude. Always been a funnel, always will be a funnel. It existed before quads, long before the delightful MR Steele did one, even before he knew what a heli or quad was. If sideways and centre points moves, it's funnel turns.

The thing about circling yourself (or whatever you want to yaw spin around) in kind of your "peripheral vision" seems key to learning this type of trick and I wonder if I would have ever figured that out myself. JB is amazing with figuring out how to break things down so that inexperienced pilots have a much easier time learning moves. Thank you so much, Joshua! 👍👊👏🙏 Now if someone could make flying with uptilt click in my head...lol. I MUST have my uptilt at 0. At zero uptilt, I'm not horrible. Everything makes sense, I can put the quad where I want it, I'm working on flips and rolls and I'm definitely improving every time I fly, but I hate uptilt. Whenever I try to fly a quad with uptilt it's like I'm putting my hands on a transmitter for the first time all over again. I suck, there's no other way to say it. I can't judge altitude, and because upward thrust is no longer perpendicular to the direction I'm looking in, it completely hoses the control I feel at zero uptilt. At zero, I'm on my way to hero, but with uptilt, I AM a zero! 😉 Sorry for writing a book here folks. It's an attempt to see if by writing about it to explain it might make something click, which often seems to work for me. I realized my obvious next step in troubleshooting my Tiny Hawk just yesterday, while talking to a friend about it. Somehow, trying to explain something to someone who speaks the same language (techie) , more often than not, causes me to find the answer or at least ideas in the right direction. But back to my issue. So when uptilt enters the picture, the "misalignment" of the plane the camera is oriented in, and the control axes (is that the correct way to spell the plural of "axis"?) of the quad throws me for a loop (sorry, bad pun couldn't be helped 😂). Oh well, no clicks in my noggin so far, and I've run out of ways to keep droning on about it. I got nothing. 😐 I guess I'll just keep flying zero uptilt for now. As I improve overall, I'd hope I'll also get better at wrapping my brain around compensating for uptilt. If not, I'm more into the idea of freestyle than racing anyway. Maybe if I'm stuck at zero uptilt, I'll end up with really unique looking video that makes people wonder how I do certain moves, since everybody's used to seeing video shot with significant uptilt. I'm starting to think I might have to change my "handle" to ZeroUptiltFPV... 😜👍😁👊

Joshua, I assumed everybody just called this "sideswiping." Anyways, you break it down really well for those who learn this way...but I learn differently. The way I learned was to just go out and try...started out very uncoordinated, like in jerky steps, with jerky corrections (some yaw, oh, then some roll, one after the other instead of coordinated). Eventually you practice enough, and watch enough Steele videos for inspiration, that suddenly you realize you're sideswiping with almost no visible corrections apparent on video. Achieving a smooth sideswipe will make you feel like a reasonably accomplished quad pilot, and really allows for some fantastic throttle control exercises--cheers

I would call this more of an orbit. When I think of a "spin" I think of a rotation on axis within the boundaries of the object that is spinning, not the act of circling around a different object. Think of planes doing flat spins, or snowboarders / skaters / bmx doing 360's etc... rotations of that nature are always referred to as spins. The name you gave this maneuver is more confusing than the maneuver itself :-p When I think of a yaw spin I'm picturing a 360 on the yaw axis. Naming conventions aside, great tutorial! I'm sure this will help a lot of people.

The amount of different stick inputs is also dependent on camera tilt. The more your camera is tilted the more aileron you will use. Also throttle control is a huge part of getting locked in.

Go strait to acro and don't worry about crashing. I think for most people flying FPV in self level teaches you bad habits. I had a hard time with this as well since I'm still not great at line of sight flying in acro. Even with rates it's somewhat the same thing, you may think that low rates and high expo will keep you in control but once you start getting the muscle memory higher rates and less expo give you much more control over what the quad is actually doing. :-)
@kevinhall8949
@kevinhall8949 7 жыл бұрын
The solution to rate mode is contained on this very KZfaq channel. Follow +Joshua Bardwell's rate mode tutorial and you'll be flying acro mode so easily you'll never ever go back to self leveling mode. trust me on this one, it works!
