This technique is yoko-sutemi-waza, not te-waza. Its a variation of uki-waza, not kata-guruma variation.

Could be, depends on the timing and whether you mount the opponent over the shoulders or if you keep the distance. I’ve seen this categorized as kata guruma (by ijf) and in some cases depending on the direction and principle as uki waza or even in some cases as yoko otoshi. In this execution we show the kata guruma. Note the direction of uke. If you check Fabio Basile on ijf.org you can see the application and categorisation by ijf. Some even say this is kata otoshi. And in this case it is not a yoko for sure, at no point does tori land on his side nor the movement is to the side. The function of the extended leg is to prevent a step over and add stability rather then to block uke as in yoko otoshi.

Hey dude. Due to the prohibition of taking feet, this is advanced "Kata-guruma.

@@justjudo7601 There is no technique called kata-otoshi. It's an unofficial name. You can find the definition of kata-guruma variation in Toshiro Daigo (Kodokan 10th dan) Sensei's book, Kodokan Throwing Techniques, page 231/232. And this is a definition given by the Waza Research Institute of the Kodokan on April 1, 1997. The principle of the technique that you presented is yoko-sutemi-waza. For the technique to happen, tori's lateral sacrifice is necessary, therefore, in this case, a variation of uki-waza.

@@ricardokerscher you can also find the definition, the important thing is how to interpret it. If you are adamant that kata guruma is a technique where you need to grab the leg, then let’s agree to disagree. Kata guruma means shoulder wheel. If you do a shoulder wheel (regardless if you touch the leg or not) you do kata guruma. Read the first abstract here kodokanjudoinstitute.org/en/waza/digest/10/ and then think about the principle of what is shown. Also IJF defines this as kata guruma.

@@justjudo7601 IJF got it wrong, simple as that. Who defines what is or what is not, is the Kodokan Waza Research Institute, not me, not you, not the IJF. There is, CLEARLY, in the technique presented the action of SUTEMI, i.e. sacrifice, therefore, it is, MANDATORY, a technique of sutemi-waza, and, verifying the details, more precisely, YOKO-sutemi-waza. Therefore, a VARIATION of UKI-WAZA. On the question of taking the leg, well that's why the term I used, VARIATION of uki-waza. I've already left the pages of the book. Here is what is written in the book, as the photos are not possible to post here: "UKI-WAZA SONO YON Uki-waza-from the form of kata-guruma Both sides grapple in right natural posture. Tori sees an opportunity, and, from a posture facing uke directly, he lowers his waist and steps into uke's chest with his right foot. He inserts his right hand through uke's thighs (photo 20), and puts his head under uke's right armpit so that he assumes the form of kata-guruma. He pulls down with the left hand so that uke's right armpit is tight against the back of his head; he pulls with the left hand also, lifting uke's upper body up to the right front corner (photo 21). While maintaining this posture firmly, tori straight- ens his left leg and steps deep in front of uke's right foot. He lowers his left buttock onto the mat while drop- ping down to the left side, pushes up with the right hand, pulls down with the left hand, strengthens his left leg, and raises his hips, and then throws uke towards the left rear corner. Uke is thrown towards the tip of his right foot in a rotating movement (photo 22, 23, 24, 25). In this technique, tori enters in using the kata in kata- guruma, however, he does not execute the throw from standing by lifting uke onto the shoulder. Therefore, tori must insert his head under uke's right armpit, and draw uke tight against him with uke's right arm wrapped around his neck area. Maintaining firmness in this, he drops down while using the twisting action of the body to complete the technique. After a study by the Kodokan Waza Research Institute (April 1, 1997), IT WAS DECIDED that this technique is related to UKI-WAZA and NOT kata-guruma, because the concept of the throw is based on the principle of yoko sutemi-waza." (DAIGO, 2005, p. 231/232)

this is considered a sutemi, precisely it is a variant of uki waza not Kata guruma ( te waza technique)!
