"How to" do (Kicho, Ki Cho, Keecho, Giecho) Gicho Hyung Il Bu for Tang Soo Do (Korean Karate). This is the first basic form in a series of three forms. This is a mechanical walkthrough to be used as a reference for Gicho Hyung Il Bu (Tang Soo Do Basic Form #1).
The Gicho Hyung series is made up of twenty movement patterns, this kata is also known as Taikyoku Shodan in Shotokan Karate. Created by Gichin Funakoshi as a transition tool for the Pyung Ahn / Pinan / Heian series. Kwan Ja Nim Hwang Kee integrated the Gicho Hyung series into Tang Soo Do / Soo Bahk Do. These forms appear in other Korean, Okinawan, and Japanese martial arts as well.

Hi Joshua, thanks for watching! If you watch the footwork closely at the 1:45 mark, for the 270 degree turn, you can see my back foot moving in a straight line through my own center axis. Don't think of it as a spin in a circular fashion, more of a diagonal move through a grid with a pivot at the end. Let me know if this helps.

@Rockholdkarate
@Rockholdkarate 3 жыл бұрын
Well of course I am going to say heck yeah! Tang Soo Do is definitely worth learning, it will compliment your boxing nicely. You will get to add knees, elbows, takedowns, sweeps, throws, and of course a ton of kicks into the mix. But, like boxing, you gotta find quality coach, do your research and ask tons of questions. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

I have a question ask in my area studying outside your discipline is a no no. If I start practicing this forms do your truly think I’ll be betraying the art I practice? TKD
@Rockholdkarate
@Rockholdkarate 2 жыл бұрын
Honestly never really understood that. If the master of old cross-trained all the time to enhance their understanding of martial arts, then why would you limit yourself. I cross-train in various styles of martial arts, so I can make my Tang Soo Do better. For me, it's all about better understanding of martial arts and making myself a better student, so I can be a better teacher to my students. If the you teacher has a problem with you cross-training, then your teacher is the problem.
