That's a very nifty solution! The only issue, in my opinion, is the input lag that this would cause. Faster paced games might be difficult to play. However, puzzlers and story driven games would work well. :)

If you run the switch at full brightness, the camera will use a faster shutter speed, and lag should be barely noticeable. This is something many people put up with for the sake of multilayer games, and when you just want to play Mario party with some friends, why complain?

Most people have a somewhat good phone at home. The samsung galaxy s8 they use has the same camera as the samsung galaxy s7 a phone from 5 years ago. You don't need a new expensive smartphone.

the video output chip costs next to nothing, Nintendo removed it on purpose so that you had to spend more money on the Original switch if you wanted to be able to play on the tv.

Genius, so simple yet works like a charm! I have a D3 Switch but my other half only has a lite, now she can play her own Animal Crossing Island on the big TV! We already had 2x Galaxy S10's laying around due to a recent upgrade. All I needed to order was the USB to HDMI and a tripod to hold the phone.

Latency was excellent in your example. What were your Open Camera settings? Do you go for lower resolution, and higher frame rate? Or did you find it not matter.

I wasnt really thinking of "how to dock the switch lite" i was thinking what this guy must have been thinking aboot when he found this remedy... how about a device that allows you to capture your switch lite to the tv, because if the switch lite cant do it, surely there must be something else like a device that can do it for you, and luckily for me this is very inexpensive

@@carrasquillo40 smaller, non detachable joycons, *maybe* less processing colour, makes the nintendo switch look like it's for adults and the switch lite is the kiddie version, also looks bad and has no "classic switch" variant unlike the OLED (no black version with blue and red joycons).

Thanks so much for this. My mom doesn't have a lot of money, but knew that both me and my sister would want a switch to play animal crossing. So I told her that I don't mind having a switch lite while my sister gets the big one. I don't regret this decision, but sometimes I do wish I could just play on a bigger screen, as the small screen just feels a bit uncomfortable for me sometimes. Thank you!

I just got one (waiting for it currently) because I only have a CRT-TV and I want some shmups on the go. I can only agree. This is a good solution. Reminds me of those stands that just magnify your phonescreen if you don't have a tablet to watch shows on. Simple, easy, cheap.

Good video. You kept it simple. The only negatives for this setup is it’s a bit cumbersome looking to set up & you can’t use the built in controls on the Lite. Nonetheless you provided a viable option so kudos to you! I would only go through the trouble to set it up if I was having friends over playing multiplayer games.

There actually was a TV camera adapter back in the psp days that did the same thing, since the first gen psp didn't have video output. It would sit on the psp screen like a mechanical alien face hugger. Cool to see that basics still work!

I'm pretty excited about trying this. While I do need to buy a few extra things, it's running me about $12 total for the tripod, the HDMI adapter, and a type c to type a adapter so I can use a cabled controller. Those are also all things that serve multiple purposes as well.

@Tech Yesterday can you use that adapter setup + capture card in regular Switch without the dock? My purpose is to use a capture card and stream it with OBS but play in the regular Switch screen instead of an external monitor or the preview on the OBS.

definitely a good workaround for us that arent able to get their hands on a switch and instead had to go with the switch lite because of og switches not being in stock for months now, I didn't really mind about the docking anyhow but its nice to know theres a way to dock it if you really wanted to, so thanks for this I'll definitely have to try this out

i don't know why people are disliking this at all. This is such a clever way of getting the Nintendo Switch Lite to ouput to a monitor. It definitely wasn't what I thought but still I'm going to try this out.

I have a regular switch but was looking up docking solutions for a friend. This is pretty great and while not as elegant as some might hope for, is certainly viable and should be done by anyone with no other options. Great video.

Great video and it's a simple but extremely effective solution I have to point out that no your phone mirror only goes to your local network it doesn't go to internet then the TV. I know I'm being a stickler but it's still makes it sound like there's way too much latency

Dude this is so smart! I just screen mirrored my phone onto the tv and used my camera to film the switch. I have a stand on my switch case and I just propped my phone up- this costed me NO MONEY!!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!!

For the ones of you that have smartphones without USB OTG support, you can use some software like scrcpy to connect your phone via USB to your PC and view its screen without almost any lag (in fact an expert eye could notice it but it doesn't affect playing games at all) or, if you can't use a PC or a phone, you could always use a camcorder, I have one with an HDMI out that I can connect to my TV and it works quite well for streaming portable consoles on a big screen.
